Arrow New user questions and answers.

This is an...experiment, if anything else. We'll see how it goes.

This is not a thread to ASK questions.

This thread is to post basic to mid level questions that a new user may ask, and post the ANSWER to that question.

Since there is not a new user section, and new users seem to be intimidated by wealth of information to wade through on the forums, lets see if one thread of all the basics that any new owner would ask may help...some new users...those that have the patience to read. If this gets any traction, maybe it can be stickied.

    Example:

    Q.
What does the lower dash light in this pic mean?

    A.
    That is your coolant light.

Here is another helpful pic to learn about your other dash lights.

    Legend

Note the website where the Legend is located. You may find more helpful info on the 3S wiki.

So, please keep this serious. Don't feel the need to 'school the noobs' and post really dumb/questions and answers. We know they're out there, we don't need to harp on it any more.

Well, this got a lot of traction...

    Q. "What is that ticking noise my car is making?" Should I be worried?

    A. That's your lifters. Not cause for great concern, mostly annoying, but can be fixed.
    .

    Read more here.

You can also upgrade your lifters.

    Q. "Well, I'm not really sure it's my lifters. It's a little louder than a ticking sound."

    A. If that noise you hear is more of a clack-clack than a tick-tick, you could possibly have a spun bearing. .

Spun bearing = really bad day.
Spun bearings are when the rod or main bearing spin with the rod cap/crank journal. the bearings are crescent shaped pieces of metal. (Bearing Image ) when there isn't enough oil to supply the space between the crank journal and the rod bearing/main bearing or the crank journal and the main cap the bearing will seize on the crank and follow it's rotation. This is bad for multiple reasons. the most obvious of which would be the metal shavings from the bearings as they spin in the rod cap without oil or the main cap without oil.

    I love the idea.

I think a format where each question gets it own post would be better as it would allow for discussion of the topic and new information to be added later.

I am pretty sure that posting this to FB was part of Vira's plan.

But, we'll need more than 3 FAQ's to make this useful. If others cold help and post up come content it would help.

So cool to see you doing this Vira! And thanks for making a section for it, Alan.

Hopefully it'll take some of the strain off the veteran Facebook users.

    Is the 3S a DSM?

    NO.
The 3000gt/Stealth was built in Nagoya, Japan.

    JDM - Japan Built
DSM - Normal, Illinois, USA built

The Mitsubishi GTO is a sports car built by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors between 1990 and 2001. In most export markets it was rebadged as a Mitsubishi 3000GT. It was also imported and sold by Chrysler in North America as a Dodge Stealth captive import from the 1991 to 1996 model years with only minor detail/appearance differences; mechanically, the two cars were identical. The Mitsubishi GTO, or Mitsubishi 3000GT, and Dodge Stealth design was the result of the collaborative effort between Chrysler and its Japanese partner, Mitsubishi Motors. It took its name from the Galant GTO, a two-door hardtop coupé sold by the company in the early 1970s, which got its name from the Ferrari GTO, which means Gran Turismo Omologato. In Japan, it was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.
Diamond-Star Motors (commonly abbreviated to DSM) was an automobile-manufacturing joint venture between the Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC).[1] The name came from the parent companies' respective logos: three diamonds (Mitsubishi) and a pentastar (Chrysler).[2] Diamond-Star Motors was officially renamed Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America, Inc. (MMMA) in 1995, four years after Mitsubishi took sole control of the plant, and since 2002 its official title has been Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) Manufacturing Division.[3]

Though the engine has nothing to do with whether a vehicle is a DSM or not, many refer to all 4g63 powered cars as DSM's. If you are unsure if your car is a DSM, look at the firewall vin tag. If it has "Diamond Star Motors" or the DSM logo around the edges, it is indeed a DSM. If it says "Mitsubishi Motors" and has the 3 point Mitsubishi logo, it was produced by Mitsubishi after DSM was officially dissolved. [4]
