In an effort to avoid derailing the "taillights" thread...

...I hope to be forgiven for asking what exactly is involved in swapping 3000GT sideskirts onto a 1G Stealth?

I assume it can be done, but hey, I don't have a clue.

My Stealth is the only 3S I've had the opportunity to examine up close, as I live at the end of the Earth, and the side moldings are basically the only feature of the Mitsu marque I envy - as pretty as the rest of the Stealth is, I would much prefer the line of the 3000GT moldings, and preferably the 2G rather than the 1G version.

The bottom line of the moldings is much more attractive when it is parallel to the ground, a la the Mitsu.

I would think it's a pretty straight up swap, not like when I swapped the ES side skirts for R/T skirts. Had to do a lot of cutting and drilling to make them work. You might have to drill some new holes for the door cap nipples to line up.

Going from rt sideskirts to 3000gt ones is a 100% bolt on swap, very easy.

This. But that being said don't do it Kevin. The 1g RT look better than the 3000GT ones, especially on a 1G RT.

I'd like to go 2G GT, Brian.

I like the bottom line of the side-scoop parallel to the ground, not the top one, as with the Stealth.

Truth be told, I've wondered what made me quibble with the Stealth's looks, which I prefer in every other aspect, and I finally determined the 'line' thing was was it, in a nutshell.

If it's a straight swap between 2G GT and 1G TT, I think I'm inclined to do it - especially if it's easily reversible.

I just don't see the "bubbliness" of the 2g skirt going with the 1g RT body, but in the end the decision is yours.

The most difficult part of the whole swap is doing it right. That is because in order to properly remove the sideskirt you have to remove the interior panels to get to the nut on the backside of the skirt. You can technically yank the skirt off once you get to a certain point, but you end up breaking mounting points and could destroy the skirt.

Also be sure to swap the door caps. I don't think the caps line up properly from RT to 2G GT.

    They do not.

There are 1G RT caps, 2G RT caps, and 3000GT caps are the same from 91-99.

Brian is correct. Only the Base/ES stealth has a PITA for swapping skirts/caps over. I also tend to agree about 1g RT looks and 2g 3k sides. 2g R/T sides would probably work better for a 1g R/T.

That said, my favorite combo has been--and still is: 97 front, 2g 3k sides, 2g r/t rear.
