Question How long of a job would this be?

Hey everyone! I've got a question. I'm looking at buying a 1991 Dodge Stealth(91 dodge stealth), and it needs the head gasket replaced. My stepdad is a mechanic, but he doesn't really want me to get it because of how much work it would be to time the engine again since it's a 24 valve DOHC. He thought it might be an 18 hour job, but wasn't sure because he doesn't work on dohcs that much. His ChiltonPro just expired too so he can't look up an estimate on it. Can you guys give me a hand on how long it would take to replace the head gasket? I also doubt that he has the tools to time the engine.

Timing it is the easy part, pulling the rear head can be a pita. You should be investing another $450-$600 on a 60k/120k maintanence as well. The tool for the timing tensioner is less than $50. If he is any kind of mechanic at all this should be under 18hrs.

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

Do you know any instructional videos or something on replacing the Head gasket? Maybe I'll just tell him I'll do it myself and just ask him for help whenever.

So, if I find something for a mitsu, it's the same for a dodge right? Aren't they basically the same engine?
