Well if anyone's willing to throw together oil tests vs their engine builds clearances and send away for analysis im in.

Some serious data would need to be had as well.
Oil Temp would be critical.
I never quite knew what to think of the old oil-salesman's saw about Pennsylvania crude having better "lubricity" than continental crude, but I suspect there is remnant thought/sentiment that this is the case.
That aside, it seems the author tried to take pains to come up with a 'pure' test, but whether or not his results are slanted a bit in order to be self-serving isn't clear.
In scanning his results, I see he notes several oils are actually degraded by his additive; he's not blindly advocating his product, I don't think, so it's all down to whether or not you think the test he's devised is legitimate/applicable.
In any case, I've used 5w30 Castrol GTX since I've owned the car, and I'm not inclined to argue with his result.![]()
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality
Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.
Just watched a show, engine power where they built a lq4 gm engine to 900 hp and it had bearing clearances about double ours and they are using 5w-20 oil
They also only had to make it survive a few dyno pulls, were trying to make the most power they could, and wanted to advertise for royal purple.
I do watch that show a lot and really for once I was really disappointed in that engine setup. Clearly there was an issue with the turbo setup because originally he said they couldn't make boost after 4500. He acted like a boost controller would fix it. When they used one and raised the boost horsepower barely went up and torque did go up quite a bit which tells me that boost was still falling off.
Either the compressor map is not a good fit for that engine or something else is wrong. It should've made 1000+ like a walk in the park.
The only issue I have with the powerblock shows is they call it a success regardless of the results. If they build a car and it doesn't run good track times you never see the timeslip. They build a big turbo monster engine like that and don't fix the turbo issue, but call it a success? I really hope they tune the engines a LOT more than they show on TV. They hugely gloss over the details in getting the best out of a setup, but they will spend 2/3 of the show assembling bolt on parts.
I realize they have to make money and parts sponsors make the money for the show, but I just don't feel like they are honest 100% of the time and certainly they are not giving a 100% honest big picture of what it takes to really do what they do.

Was kinda bummed to see RotellaT 15w40 not ranked higher. That's all I've been using for the last few years. All I know is that I ran probably half a dozen open track days using this oil, and when we tore the engine down to fix a blown head gasket (too much boost, decked heads, and didn't have Ray's head lift fix yet), the inside of the engine and heads were super clean. We replaced all the bearings since the engine was apart already, and all the old bearings still looked great. I know I had serious bouts of knock due to not good tuning, but everything held up great. I'll keep using this oil without any worries. And it's cheap enough that I can change the oil after every other track day without spending a fortune.

I couldn't worry too much about the rankings. As has been pointed out, there's a lot about this "analysis" that isn't quite up to snuff and too much self championing and talk of why we should trust him.

Wow... He wrote a friggen novel. To sum the article up, he predicted everything that could possibly happen. He knows all related oil and is most likely backed by the oil Jesus himself. Either that or he had a PHD in internet BS lol.
I've run Amsoil 10W-30 racing oil changed out every 1-2k since I've owned my 3S. Definitely not worried about this guys testing results.
