Steven A. Smith, sports pundit, is a jerk as well; it is his stock-in-trade - however, his comments leading up to this-

-while clumsy, were close to the mark.

Rice's then-fiance/now-wife, by way of instigation, spit on Rice at some point before Rice decked her.

I hereby comdemn Rice for his actions, and I believe Roger Goodell's (NFL commissioner) institution of a two-game suspension is sadly lacking in severity; one recalls season-long drug suspensions, dog-abuse suspensions, and wonders how this incident DOESN'T compare.

In any case, I have seen precious little attention paid to the actions of Janay Palmer, Rice's wife.

If she spit on Ray Rice, it's a comparatively benign act; while we don't (and probably never will) know what might have happened beyond that minor offense, I find myself once again flummoxed not only by the lack of attention given her provocation, but also by the outrage engendered by Smith's comments, however clumsy.

I recall an incident a while back where a male New York Jets fan was prosecuted for smacking a female Buffalo Bills fan - this after video of the event clearly showed the woman assaulting the guy first.

I'm not calling it an epidemic, but I have myself been assaulted by females (without similar response), then grilled about what I might have done to provoke an attack while I was getting stitched-up.

I've been run through with a fishing spear, clobbered with a cinder block, and beaned with coffee mugs, among other things.

No one has ever questioned the female's motivation in any case, or posited that she might have committed a criminal act.

I am not alone in my experience.

I would hear any speculation as to how/why women are generally issued a de facto pass in the vast majority of such incidents, and also why, in the case of an incident that is news-worthy (Rice), why any and all males should consider it not worth comment?

The video of Rice dragging his then fiancee out of the elevator made me wonder if she was really unconcience, or if she was just milking it to try and teach him a lesson. I'm not denying that he probably did strike her, but it likely wasn't hard enough to knock her out.

drives me up a wall. no I don't support hitting women or inherently weaker people at all costs. what really grinds my gears is that women KNOW they have zero accountability for their actions and no matter what men shouldn't hit them. thus they act how they please and are shocked when men recriprocate. anyone that has been to a bar has seen some drunk bish calling some guy every name in the book, throwing drinks at them, and even hitting them with no fear of retaliation. it's complete bullshit. these feminazis cry about being equal and getting treated like a man until they have to endure anything negatitive that only a man would normally be put through. then they make insane parrellels to a drunk girl at a football game beating the hell out of a man to a drunk man coming home and beating his wife because dinner is cold. it's an over simplification that the dumb masses can look at and say, "yes both same. hit bad.".

Along the same lines, I remember a year or so ago a Youtube video of a bus driver uppercutting a supremely mouthy and disruptive female passenger.

If I may be granted dispensation for the feeling of vicarious satisfaction I derived from watching that event, I find myself wondering how eager the woman might have been to repeat the scenario in another place, at another time.

This type of behavior has to be regarded broadly as an anomaly, but it is, nonetheless, a problem/habit for some women.

I wonder what, in the absence of the uppercut, might convince similarly-inclined women to observe a behavioral norm?

I thought of the same senario. the driver warned her several times, "you want to act like a man I'm going to treat you like a man!". I took great satisfaction in that as well.

oh and nothing would have give her the act right she needed to get it together.
