    Transmission or TCase?

Hi guys i was just trying to figure out if in fact it is my transmission that needs rebuilt and not my tcase. Right now the engine and tranny are out of the car but when it was up and running, it would grind going into 2nd and 4th gear at or above 3k rpm. So how would i know if it is my transmission or my Tcase that's bad?

T-case will act (mostly) the same in all gears. It may get louder at higher speeds, but there is no shifting occurring.

    Your transmission needs work.

Your Tcase does nothing more than transfer power to the rear wheels.

If you have gear grinding issues, it's most definitely a transmission (and most likely bad synchronizer) issues.
