They have been dipped for a year or so. I wouldn't try to wax them. Plastidip had that rubbery texture that if you rub it starts to bead up and pieces come off. I just let it be and I think it looks good. If you want you can always pray the Plastidip clear on it and it will add a little shine to it.

Not worried about shine, I just want to make the surface a bit less grabby - maybe a bit of silicone, then.

Anyway, a year is pretty good - I keep mine in the garage, so.

Actually, though, it really doesn't matter, given how easy repairs are.

I don't get plastidip.

If you go thorugh the trouble of masking you might aswell take a minute to sand it and use spray cans. I spray canned mine matte black and it has held up fine for 2 years still looks like new.

It's very simple, Ange: Swedes prefer paint.


That's a fair question - Personally, I would say plasti-dip is less invasive, relative to overspray (big plus, relative to conditions - I did the pass. side outdoors), it melds better with the metal/seal interface, and it's easy to re-do if need be.

Nothing at all wrong with paint; I chose the 'dip (1) to find out how well it works, and (2) to save a bit of effort/labor.

Got the driver's side done last night - looks good, a bit better than the pass. side, in fact.

I did it totally in the garage though, and didn't want to do pics until I could do it in the sun, which has disappeared for the time being.

K, did the driver's side, same result, same degree of mismatch, color-wise.

Going to redo the pass. side, due to a still-rough edge showing through from the underlying coating.

Debating whether I should try to darken the rest to match the trims or continue to play games with the 'dip.

Thinking about exploring the possibility of obtaining a custom-color mix.

You did better than me - I just tore off all the loose old paint/cover whatever it is on the bare metal and just sprayed over it and cleaned the rest of the car with bug spray to take care of overspray. Turned out well, actually but you can see the edge of the old paint far more than yours.

+1...just helped a local yahoo dip his entire car two weeks ago, will grab a pic tomorrow. We used the ICE as well and although it does not "shine" it gives it a bit of a gloss, and is a ton easier to wash the car now
