Plasti-dip window trims

Did the passenger side; more of an experiment at the moment.

I did a light scrub with med steel wool, masked, and shot the trim with several coats of black, per my plan, but then followed it with a few more coats of 'Smoke' Plasti-dip spray:





Let it sit overnight, then de-masked - had to use a razor on the bottom side of the trim, but no biggie; the rest came off easily (used wax paper under the seal on the glass side), with this result:









I'm not real satisfied with the match, but I have a few moves to make; I'm gonna wait until conditions are right to give the quarter-pillars a good shot of wax, in the hope it'll enhance/deepen the color to match the dipped stuff, and if that doesn't work to my liking, I'll probably strip the dip and try again exclusively with the smoke.

I'm not dissatisfied with the finish, but I'll likely leave this on for a while so as to ascertain durability, etc., see how the sun likes it.

I also note the dip wasn't thick enough to hide the edge of the original coat properly, and it's slightly ragged in that area, so if I redo it, I'll use something a little stiffer than steel wool to knock down that slight edge.

So - bottom line, I will do the driver's side entirely in smoke, pending an application of wax, and if that pans out, I'll redo the pass-side immediately.

Anyway, thanks, Chris - looking forward to the rain tomorrow, so I can play with the wax in the garage.

If I can get it 50% closer, I'll be 25% happier with it.

I may even hit the 'dip with the wax - I'm sure it could stand to be a bit more slippery.

I did get them from cherry hill about a year ago. Lately I have been contacting terry since cherry hill started charging so much shipping.

I did mine as well. I just ended up spraying all of the charcoal over the rear quarter and under the stealth sail panels with black dip also. It looks pretty good.

Looks good, I'm curious how long this will last. I thought about just painting mine.

Actually turned really well. I've wondered if that would work, looks good.

Also, these are not hard to remove from your car, I always nab any good ones I find at salvage yards. haha

I am at the end-of-the-earth, for all practical purposes.
