    Thumbs up Eric's '95 VR-4 tuning progress with TB Billet 19T's, Pump-E85, and MAF-T/ECUFlash

I have been meaning to share this from a regional board, but I wanted to have the next set of numbers in first. Since the next steps are taking a little longer than expected, I figured why not post a little early for your guys' viewing pleasure - Enjoy!

Eric has been an active member in NorCal with his red '95 VR-4 for many years. More recently, he had a very poor, unsatisfying experience with a local tuning shop. Long story short: the car ran rich at all times in closed-loop and "only" made 440WHP @18psi without future promised help unless even more money was paid. This was unacceptable more so as a student. Cue ALan on stage! haha

I had always kept in touch with Eric while he had his MAF-T Pro and his first segment with the flashable ECU. Although I was slowly becoming more open to e-mail tuning, I did not want to jump into the mix with his car unless the shop was totally out of the picture. After getting shafted on his hard-earned money, time, and need for help, Eric almost wanted to revert to the Evolution MAS and start again on his own. Of course I had to help!

As you can see, his VR-4 sits clean and aggressive - just needs the power and speed to back it up!

"Here is a more recent engine bay view; OCC/CV are not currently installed."

"480WHP @18psi so far! +40//30 gain at the same exact boost level lol. 24psi results tonight with a more aggressive tune.

Red line = shop's dyno tune
Blue line = my base tune
Green line = my revised tune"

As of right NOW, the car is at a solid 11.5:1 with 24* up top, BUT we need to comb through a few things first to better yield the high boost numbers, such as a 30psi pressure test and most likely adding a front CV/KV. He will also be taking my suggestion to modify the rear BT/SD intake pipe to have a 3/8" hose barb for the rear VC like my Panda.

These custom stock-housing "TurboBob" Billet TD04HL-19T's do not really have results out there, so we are hoping that they continue to perform well and show gains. His current goal is to run mid to low-11's, and it should be feasible. We have enough fuel to safely tune for around 26-28psi tops, so we shall see what happens.

Thanks again for the trust and opportunity! 500+ is right in front of us, and everything else will be icing on the cake.

    Stay tuned!

Thanks! It is always nice to share a different build/story that not everybody knows about.

    Update:
Pressure test was performed with two people and lots of soapy water - no pun intended LOL. They determined that both lower plenum gaskets were the culprits, so new ones + upper will be installed by this morning. Afterward, we should hopefully be back on "Kill Mode" to try again!

Also, we made an informal deal where if I could get the car to ~550WHP, then Eric would look into possibly driving down to SoCal for this year's MOD [Mitsubishi Owner's Day] to dyno with hopeful media coverage. A 3/S has not gone up for a while with the DSM's and EVO's. I should have gone last year but did not want the attention. Two years before that, they thought a Billet DR650 car @24-25psi would not be "good enough" pffft.

    Keeping our fingers crossed!

Sweeeet. Apparently, Tey will be on a caravan with some Lancer guys lol. Eric is at the store right now as I type, but we think the gasket set looks like crap out of the packaging. Two more sets are enroute.

"They" would be the dyno operators from RRE, and "good enough" would be at least 500WHP-ish. Cho knows the shop manager, so we could have been more persistent about it then but decided eff it. Funny enough, the first few dyno participants were less than stellar.

I made this plot almost two years ago, but yeahhhh:

The EVOs at MOD are putting down some big WHP. Anything under 700 is probably boring.
