Thread: Chrome user having major issues and out of ideas!

nipple on front side of plenum, not pinched at all.

Since my condition started immediately after the hotwire and on 450cc injectors I thought this would be the first culprit. I checked all the wiring, 3sx sells a plug in harness with their kits, I traced the wires down and confirmed they were all correct. Even called 3sx to ensure all wires coming out of harness were the same as the rest of the ones they sell. I don't know how else you can screw a hot wire up....I also did the resistor bypass mod.

just a side note.....this car was hotwired before with the same 450's just a different pump walbro 255 instead of aem 320 and ran completely fine. Used the ips kit. I ended up taking it out....not really sure why, figured I was overrunning the fpr had lower power goals at the time. I was also running a hybrid ecu at the time of the first hotwire. ran flash ecu no problem unhotwired for a year. wasn't really doing any tunin though so wasn't really logging much. all problems started after hotwire

The fuse for the hot wire kit used on this car was corroded thus didn't allow good connecton. This same car had corroded connectors at the fuel pump itself. Was a pain.

Its a new kit. Just checked all connections again, all is well. ran a multimeter to measure power supply, solid 13 volts, never changed

put the jumpers back to calispec. with the stock rom o2's did not go opposite lock. condition the same if not worse though

Whatever the deal is, its definitely outside the realm of being able to be tuned out. I would consider taking the car back to 3SX or one of the other pros to have them hunt down the issue. I don't believe there's much we can do online for you without being hands on with the car itself.

at this point I am going to reinstall the stock injectors, see if thats the issue, if its not then Ill run the stock injectors with the stock ecu and see how that does. Taking it back to 3sx is not an option, Im out of money

In the process of changing the injectors back to stock for now. Adam since there is so much confusion on how this ECU is supposed to be setup, would it be possible to send it back to you to have tested so that I can rule this out as the cause and to know how exactly the jumpers should be set? Thanks

Ok, been a busy week and I needed a break from this to kind of clear my head. Been doing a little bit of reading trying to work this out. I will have the stock injectors in tonight to see if that resolves my problem, most likely it wont but it would be nice to rule that out. If that does not fix the issue I will install the original ecu and see how that goes. I will report back tonight. In the mean time I have a question.

When the lean condition happens it feels what I would think would be fuel cut. Since the AFR gauge maxes out lean and the car feels like I just ran the car out of gas, then if I power through it all is well. car does this only when closed loop is enabled. My question is could the TPS cause these issues with closed loop enabled but not cause issue when disabled? I am interested to see if I duplicate the condition what the tps voltage does and if the idle switch is engaging and disengaging properly. I have noticed that sometimes at idle the switch does not engage on the datalogger.

Adam, still got some questions about this ECU

Leaving the car in cali spec configuration because that is the way it is supposed to be set up

Its been an interesting night. Just got done with the car and here is what I found. First I finished putting the stock injectors in. I flashed the stock values to the car still set up as cali spec. Ran great for about 5 minutes then started having same issues but idle was much more steady and very lean. Brought the car back in and noticed o2 were not cycling. I have no idea why the car will not run correctly in the correct configuration. I then put the stock ecu and stock maf back on. Car drove perfectly. I then put the flash ecu back in as fed spec and it drove perfectly. I previously ruled out the MAF by swapping back and forth so I know that is not why the symptoms resolved. Tommorow I will do further testing to make sure I can set the idle where its supposed to be but I think that this has been narrowed down to two maybe three possibilities.

    1. something is wrong with the FIC 850's I installed. I highly doubt this. STM has told me they have sold hundreds of these and that they are their recommended injector with 0 failures.
    2. 3SX/ performance factory botched the tune and for some reason could not get these dialed in.
    3. For some reason the ECU does not like these injectors and their is a problem with it, just comes to the surface with the 850's and not the stock ones but remember after I hotwired it the 450's started doing the same thing just not as bad and it was untuned. Doubt this as well, but not outside the realm of possibility given its a cali spec car and must be set up as a federal spec to run correctly.

I need some input here guys, I have a good relationship with 3SX and before I come dragging this car back to fix I need to make sure I am covering everything.

Have you checked the fuel filter? Did the car sit for a long time by chance?

I ask because I had similar problems with my fuel pressure dropping dangerously low at WOT, had twin walbros and aftermarket FPR, etc etc.

Problem was a supply issue, my fuel filter kept clogging up, found it was debris from the tank that had built up from sitting for too long. I would for sure LOG the fuel pressure while driving.....see if it drops when you see the lean condition, then its for sure a supply issue.
