Fixed up my headlight that was peeling... Did it the right way, in hopes that it'll last me at least 3 years. Took about 7 hours total. Just wanted to post my results.
I Completely wet sanded the original failing clear/protective coating off thoroughly with 800, 600, and 400 grit sandpaper, then continued to work my way back up to 2500 grit sandpaper on it. No polishing.
I sprayed on 2 coatings of SEM Solaray UV Headlight Repair Clearcoat, heavy wet (for minimal orange peel). After a 5 minute flash time I then cured it in the sun in close to 100 degree temps for about 2.5 Hours. I changed the angle of the light every 30 mins or so to make sure all sides were cured. I think it turned out extremely well!
And that's just reflection of a tree on the headlight, not blochy paint!
There's a slight bit more of orange peel on it than the other headlight, but it's not noticeable in the least, unless you set the lights side by side, and even then you still have to "look" for it to see it. Also, there are the slightest of sanding marks left on it that you can see if the sun hits it just right in the black lens circles, but I feared that the clear might not have had enough adhesion to the surface if I went any higher than the 2,500 grit sandpaper. But overall, I think it turned out pretty dang good.
I'll also be putting a coating of Opti-lens on the lens in 90 days after the clearcoat is 100% cured.
