I'm not from new England, and I almost hate them. But I would never take manning over Brady, unless I wanted regular season fantasy numbers. Manning is close to being the #1 choke artist of all time.

In fact, after last years super bowl performance, I can't put him in a top 5.

Definitely something to consider, and it's also what demands guys like Montana or Bart Starr belong in the discussion.

    What is the measuring stick?

    Is it stats?

    Wins?

    Regular or Post-season?

I find it interesting that Favre always gets numerous mentions in these conversations, when he holds all the records for championship runs ended by inopportune interceptions - I know he gets alot of fan-favorite sentiment, but if it weren't for him, I'd have a lot more hair left.
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

it's called a team sport for a reason. doesn't matter who the QB is if the rest of the team is garbage he won't do well and the team won't do well. hell the defense can impact the offense and in a lot of cases is a major deciding factor in the plays called on offense.

Maybe a better way to look at the issue is to play 'Who would you rather have under center?'

I mentioned Bart Starr, who has - I don't even have to check this - the best post-season winning percentage of all time; even so, he can only be judged as a cog in the machine that was Vince Lombardi's Packers.

On another hand, if I was rooting for a wild-card team to have a fighting chance, maybe I'd prefer to have Favre.

It's difficult to be objective - it's even difficult to be subjective.

The only thing we can know for sure is that no one quarterback can drag a crappy team across the championship line.

true but a good team can drag a crappy QB to the Championship(Trent Dilfer) or at least to the dance(Rex Grossman).

Exactly, and would anyone posit that Dilfer's win makes him a better QB than Dan Marino?

IMO, which absolutely no asked for but you're getting anyways, I'll take a QB who knows his role and doesn't make back breaking mistakes over anything else.

If the team is built to run the ball and suffocate on defense so that the QB just needs to Be a game manager then yes, Dilfer maywel be a better QB than Marino.

If the team has no running game and needs a QB to air it out and rack up yards, then the best QB may well be Marino.

Like it or not, best QB requires evaluating a lot of variables. How successful was the team, how did players who left fare with other teams and QBs after, what kind of rules may impact it, stats, and the systems.

Have to imagine Marino would be an absolute monster in the current NFL, but doesn't mean he would have ended up with SB victories. Look back over the last decade or so, no one QB single handedly dragged his team to success. Aside from the Saints and the Rams, in the last 20 years I struggle to think of any other super bowl winners who were almost all passing offense and carried by good QB play.

Right right..Cause like the NFL, the rules should apply equally to everyone. If I'm allowed to share mine, then we have to let IPD share his and actually listen.
