If someone is a scammer then they will get around these or other rules. The only ways around it would be totally foolish considering the venue here. So buyer beware applies here just like anywhere similar. Asking for more in depth info will do nothing but inconvenience the non-scammers/seller anyway. The info request exceeds reasonable levels without any added assurances at all. What's next,,,,a surcharge? Vendor fees?

When it becomes reasonable I'll verify to sell. Until then I guess I will stick to "other" forums, craigslist, ebay, and other places that do not require such levels of 'proof'.

Many, possibly the majority, of real estate transactions involve escrow. The ones you're referring to are an escrow service recommended by the seller who is in cahoots with the seller to scam the buyer. Definitely avoid those. I'm talking about a legitimate 3rd party service. There's tons out there and they generally specialize in real estate, auto/marine, antique....whatever niche could use it. We'd just be creating another niche for them.

If you are totally against posting the images PM them to me.

I thought the same thing as cjbyron, I personally will not "Attach an image of your drivers license and a bill that shows your address." Doesn't matter if Alan is the only one supposed to be able to see it.

It probably is a great idea to stop scamming for a large number of verified sellers. However there is no way I would give out that information over the internet to anyone ever. Just seems like too much of a serious security risk to warrant selling on here, and that is ok, I can stick to selling other places, it is not a big deal.

I know that everyone is bum rushing with the suggestions and want to state that I am not complaining, I am grateful that the forum is here now, no matter what the details are.

    Exactly.

Also, if a genuine verification is needed, do it through mail. It's too easy to photoshop stuff and post it up.

I can assure you that I won't post any of that info publicly. Aside from consumer dangers, I'm in the military and have a security clearance. If I publicly posted that info here, it would be cause for revocation of my clearance, in essence ending my military career.
Agreed, and I like the recommendation, "getting a few trusted people to act on the community's behalf to privately verify the information."

Downside: that will make probably not be efficient enough for the verification process others were complaining about the 3si process already.

I guess I have to agree on this. The verification requirements do not bother me but posting them on a forum (even if hidden) that is hosted on a shared server concerns me. It would be horrible if digitized copies of drivers licenses were to end up in the wild. Is it unlikely.. yes. But it is not very difficult for a determined individual to hack a shared MySQL db.

Suggestion : Maybe some of us paid members could enjoy a relaxed policy as you already have access to our info from the PayPal transaction.

i refuse to hand out personal information; it's a legitimate job-related security concern. i've NEVER had any negative feedback on any of my transactions--buyer or seller. if i can't get classified access here, that's going to really be an achilles heel for this forum.

i'll leave the decision in alan's capable hands for now; but i'm NOT some "fly by night" LMI, Midnight Haze, MyKiss69, etc.
