Thread: Classified Verification Overkill

  1. #91
Haven't read through all 9 pages, but why don't you make verification optional? A badge could be included on the profile indicating that SOME level of verification has happened.

Leave it to the buyer to make the decision to do business or not. In theory, verified sellers would be more likely to do business than non-verified. It would still allow those who can't, or don't want to post their personal information some options.

Alternative would be a references page with spots for ebay ID, paypal ID, etc... We could check those references instead of/in addition to the address verification.

Being a computer security engineer, there is no way I would post a picture of my driver's license on any Internet site. I wouldn't have as much problem posting a bill, as long as any sensitive information is sanitized. However, since most of my bills are paid online, I would have to supply a screen capture that could very easily be altered (same with a scanned copy, of course). I have a verified PayPal account--why not just "Sell" verifications for a reasonable amount (say $1-2) and use the PayPal verification when you receive the payment? The "fee" could be applied to site costs, etc.

I cant see anything but my thread. I cant see anyone elses picture. However I think it is fine the way it was done to get it. But maybe apply on the Verification forum, then take care of it thru PM's and then delete it?

Paypal is a way to do it. You have to be verified on that. I like that idea.

Either way its not that big of a deal. I decided I wont be selling on this forum with the current protocols. I absolutely understand the safe-guards but if someone wants to scam another member they will still do it. They can send you a blacked out DL that only shows a address but how do you know its that persons drivers license? Same thing can be said with the bill. They can use someone elses DL and Bill which verifies same address but what does that do if its not the true person?

same problem. my dl doesn't have my current address. i could have sent alan a screen cap of it and already been verified. instead, i pm'd him my current address--PAID FOR MEMBERSHIP (with a paypal account that has the SAME ADDRESS) and i still am not verified.

I'm not going to post my DL.

I'll post a utility bill or 2 from my address, but no way on the DL. Hell Mississhitty still uses our SSNs as our DL#, so.. no.

Let's take advantage of Paypal for a change...

I like the Paypal idea...since 99% of transactions will go thru them anyway, let's take advantage of their verification.
I too have a problem with the DL part. I just filled out an app. for credit and DL number was one of the things they wanted....

I haven't given it much thought...

...and I'm not really on the radar as a seller, but I believe this site was conceived as something better in every way.

No reason this part shouldn't be better as well, right?

People, read the thread. Alan said you can blank out everything on your DL other than your address. So no vital information is going to be out there other than your address, which was required on 3si too. This is just further and better verification.
