Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps Sr. 'on the edge of death'

The anti-gay Kansas preacher who courted notoriety by picketing the funerals of gays and U.S. soldiers is living out his last days in a hospice care facility near his Topeka church. Steve Drain, a Westboro spokesman, confirmed Sunday that Phelps is in ill health.

While I don't rejoice in the prospect of Phelps' impending demise, I agree that the gay crowd ought not miss the opportunity to respond overwhelmingly in the fashion modeled by his church.

I'm guessing large efforts will be expended to keep things quiet, as re the 'arrangements', cuz if WBC can't see this one coming...

I haven't seen anyone protesting outside hospice yet. I'm almost expecting some of it but I'm only on that side of town a few days a week. I definitely see his funeral being protested. Rumors are that whoever took over office in the WBC is even worse than Fred Phelps. I guess I'll see what happens.

While I think it would make a lot of people feel good to see protests, I think the most effective strategy would be to completely ignore him, and let him die in complete irrelevance... Of course the media will never let that happen.

I'd only rejoice if he pulled a Jim Jones on the way out...
