Adjusted Stats

Auburn's adjusted defensive ranking is 8th (allowed 35, 31, 41 points last 3 games)??? Georgia's is 31st (allowed 32, 38, 31 points last 3 games).

Texas (allowed 23, 13, 16 points last 3 games):
Adjusted overall defensive ranking: 9th
Adjusted points per play allowed: 9th
Adjusted yards per play allowed: 8th
Adjusted passing yards per played allowed: 3rd
Adjusted Pass defense efficiency: 4th
Adjusted sacks: 7th
Adjusted picks: 6th

Have there been injuries or something else that have hurt Auburn's once very impressive D? You have been playing some pretty damn good offenses recently, but these adjusted stats are supposed to account for opponents.

No injuries that didn't happen preseason. We haven't had Carl Lawson all year and he's one of the big reasons we got such a big push from our front 4 last year. This year our pass rush is anemic, so we're forced to blitz in passing downs, leaving the middle wide open for short slants.

For example, Ole Miss has a very average offense but Bo Wallace had a field day on us because we have such a big issue with defending the middle of the field. We got the best pass rush we've gotten all year against him but he adjusted well to our blitz packages.

It says a lot that despite giving up 41 points we were in a position to win the game last week. Really tough the way we lost though. I would have much rather lost by a missed field goal or pick. Anything but two unforced fumbles on back to back drives where we were easily moving the ball.

It's worth noting that our 2nd half defensive stats are EXTREMELY impressive, but it means nothing if you give up 30+ in the first half. Gone are the days of our ridiculous "score 30 points and AU auto wins" statistic.

EDIT: we did lose Whitehead to a suspension for violation of team rules (rumor is he got into a "more than verbal" confrontation with a coach) and he was our best corner. He has been playing special teams after serving a 6 game suspension, and got in on defense for the first time last Saturday, recording the only INT of the game (he was an INT machine last year and the beginning of this year).

That kid could get away with just about anything apparently.

Nebraska/Wisconsin on Saturday is going to be pretty interesting. The 2 teams are built very similarly, unfortunately I think the Badger defense is a little better and the game is at Camp Randall so it's gonna be a really tough one. I think the Huskers are pissed enough about how their last game against Wisconsin turned out (and dropping 3 spots in the CFP rankings despite having a bye) that they will be fired up.
