    Drain plug torque

Just doing my yearly TC/output shaft service for my 5-speed & was a little bit freaked out how easy it was to crack the drainplug loose, so I have been looking into torque # for it. The FSM states 5.5lb for the drain plug on the 5-speed transaxle & due to the same thread/length I figured that would suffice. But, The Stealth316 fluid change states 22-25 for the TC drain plug & 18-20 for the fill, doesn't distinguish between the 5-gear or the SS 6-gear. The TC recall info in the FSM calls for 300in # (25ft lb) & it also doesn't distinguish any difference between the 5 & 6 TC's. What are you guys getting away with?- don't want to take it too far (25 sounds like a bit much), but I'd rather the plug stay in place.

I have been running the Redline MT-85 in the TC, was going to change to shockproof heavy- but read too much about venting out. Anyone running the Redline 75-90 GL-5?

never torqued mine, but 20 sounds a lot more reasonable than 5.

I usually go just one decent wack on the wrench with my palm past snug, lol. I've run the redline 75-90 gl5 with no issues. The shockproof is more prone to escaping via the breather, probably due to its climbing action. I quit running it because I didn't want to bother rigging up a reservoir and I was tired of losing gear oil.

I'm running the redline 75-90 in both TC and diff for quite a while now, no issues. I would think the 5-speed has lower torque levels since the case is aluminum vs the cast iron 6 speed. The numbers from stealth316 seem to be appropriate for the 6-speed.

Thanks, gentlemen- yes, I would think anything 20-odd would be referring to the SS case, just no clear info on this- maybe I'll drill it for wire for peace of mind. GL-5 it is- great, as I have some left over from the diff.
