I just got my block back from a machine shop for a clean, balance and reassembly, first off they didn't do much to clean the piston tops which is a whole other issue, so I took them out to clean them up better, which was fine, but I just noticed a raised edge on one of the rods after removing it, its not bad right next to where the cap bolts on, but probably is raised about .001" or so, it looks like they dropped the rod or something during assembly, and its on the inside edge where it would cause the bearing clearance to change. Thank goodness my OCD made me clean up the pistons, or I would have never found this. My history with machine shops is to always double check their work and this is proof of why. This shop came highly recommended by local DSM shops too, so who knows, but im still dealing with a damaged rod.
I took it to a local friends CNC shop that make custom rods and pistons for motorcycles to have them carefully hone it off, anyone think this may cause a future problem? I can possibly try to get the shop to pay for a new rod, but since I have now taken the block apart to clean up their work I am sure they will probably try to shift the blame on me. I can't see how this will cause a problem as long as the raised edge is gone, but if anyone has a different opinion lmk.
This is a BC sportsman rod BTW.
Pretty irritating I can't trust pro's to do their job right.
