    978hp 200mph Mitsubishi Colt

I'd post this in "other," but this is too damned cool to post elsewhere.

Guys in the States have been building these as sleepers for quite a few years. I know a guy that had one several years ago that hit 200 gps verified(not as quick as this one does though). Then it bounced off a concrete divider because of a cross wind...

The internals of both the engine and gearbox must be pretty solid to survive those levels of boost and torque.

We used to have one that came out to race in the beltway scene years ago that ran 10's, looked completely stock. Was great at giving away free upsets to unknowing competitors.

Apparently, according to the article they are using a special engine: "Using a 2.0-litre Mutsubishi engine"

Internals, not really. I'd put money on it having a run-of-the-mill 4g63, which has held over 700hp in stock form. So an entry-level built engine with a proper tune wouldn't have a hard time holding that much power (at least long enough to make a few passes).

The gearbox however will not survive. Tim Zimmer (trans tech for the WTAC DSM) couldn't even hold 1,000hp with his own custom built transmission. It might hold for a half-dozen runs, but I can promise it will eventually grenade. It's an unspoken truth about DSM's- The transmissions are a time bomb at best.

Colt!!! I wish Mitsu would just stick to the same naming structure. The car is a Mirage not a Colt. And the AWD version was only available in Japan and was known as the Cyborg. I would love one of these. No-one would expect it They would be using a an EVO gearbox. So it will handle it.
