    Speedometer/Tachometer fault

    Hey all.

    im a little stumped, my instument panel rev counter and speedo are not operating. The rev counter moves off the zero mark when im at like 5k revs but only moves a little bit.

    ive checked all the fuses and they are all fine. ive heard it could be the speedo sensor in the transmission so my questions are

    1. Where is this located and how do i remove it/check it, or where can i source another from

    2. is there anything else that could be causing this problem?

    any help or advise is grand, I have had a look at the manuals that can be downloaded but i seriously cant make head nor tale of it lol

    ps its a mk1 TT

    Chris

    It might not be getting a good connection. You could try pushing in on it a little or remove it and reinstall it.

    Have you had it out recently? Installed a BSLCD or gauge faces?

    BSLCD = http://www.3sgto.org/3000gt-stealth-...d-install.html

    I bet it's not getting a good connection. I'd take the cluster out and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser then reinstall it.

    Edit: after I installed my BSLCD my cluster did that BTW, I just had to push on it a bit and it started working again.

    Most likely the cluster connections as stated above. Fairly common problem.

    So I started the car up today and the tacho is reading 4.5k and then spikes past 9k with a single touch of the throttle. Can gurantee the engine is not running like that though. I couldnt get the cluster out though too have a look at the back. Undone the screws but wouldnt pop out

    Could be bad capacitors on the ecu or ecs controller sending bad data to the cluster. However I would still try to pull it out. There are only 2 screws holding the shroud on then 4 screws holding the cluster in. Once they are out just pull it straight back towards you. Sometimes you have to wiggle it a bit.

    Yeah I got it out in the end and have cleaned it up. Ill put it back in tomorrow and see if that helps. If its bad caps or ecs controller is that expensive?

    Not really. You can send either away to get repaired or buy a 2nd hand unit on here. Or if it's ecu you could buy a plug and play clone/chromed flashable ecu. But don't stress until you have tested it after cleaning etc.
