OK... so removed the converter chip and installed the modified PCB. I can confirm it works perfectly. So for those who want to do this without installing the chip and possibly effecting things like ECS, 4WS, AA and Cruise Control this will work.... however..... as the ECU is what creates the limit it will still exist as the conversion is taking place after the ECU. This is not an issue for anyone running a standalone [like myself, Scotty, soon to be Mike and a bunch of others]. I will look into the pin 66 possibility but time is tight for me at the moment.

As for modifying the PCB it's very easy. I personally de-soldered all the unused components so it would be easy to reverse the process. The easiest method is to just snip them off. Then the only soldering you will need to do is to add the extra track/link. I used a staple as it was almost the right size and shape anyway. I just bent one end so it fit perfectly through the holes then soldered it in. There is basiccly no current through it so no need to go overboard with wires etc. As long as it's a steel staple and not stainless steel then it will solder up fine.

I had these made by Lockwood in the UK as they gave us a good price on group buy [ordered 12]. I tried to see if Speed Hut would do a group buy but they were not interested. You might be able to get Lockwood to make you one as they will still have my template. However it would be cheaper to just design your own on the Speed Hut website. But they charge extra for logos etc. They don't offer the km/h option on the site but when I emailed then they said they can do it.

If you want the exact same speedo face as mine I can email Lockwood and see how much to make one more? I think if I can work out how to convert th JDM speedo into a "true" 280km/h speedo that records the odo in kms then we could sell a lot more of these. But for that I need to PCB from one of the origional 280 units.

Edit: Yes I have modified the PCB from a JDM cluster.

OK got an update from Bruce. He has been flat out and has not had a chance to take pics or anything but has stated that he would do the unit for only £30 plus £20 postage [total is approx AUD $79]. So if I buy it at that price and take pics etc is anyone willing to purchase it afterwards? I have yet to find time to test the PCB from the burnt out 3000GT so if that doesn't work then I will use it myself....... if the PCB I already have works then I will need to move this other one ASAP as I can't afford it LOL

Joe - I'm unable to spend any funds right now. I'm hoping to put my car into a shop over the next month to get her up and running so that's my priority right now sorry mate.

No problem mate. You have Pete's old cluster anyway don't you? I plan on sending that laptop out to you tomorrow [hopefully].

    Cheers,

    Joe

Gentlemen [and Scotty ] we are in luck. I just recieved the Euro spec 280km/h speedo from the GTO Doctor in the UK and it is not the same board as the Australian [which could not be modified] one and it appears to be the the same board as the JDM and USDM models with the jumper contacts etc. So hopefully in a few days I should be able to confirm if it's identical and what needs to be changed.
