Currently doing some freshening up on my short block and have the pistons out, they are Wiseco's and had the factory skirt coatings on them, noticed it was a little worn off probably from the typical forged piston slap when they are cold and I know its normal for some of that to wear off.
Anyways, thinking of recoating the skirts for some abrasion resistance, and also doing the crowns for somewhat of a thermal barrier, I have read some good stuff out there on doing it, but I wonder if that's really necessary. I know Wiseco is known for not swelling up as much from heat as other brands. But I figure a little extra protection can't hurt either.
Any opinions?
