    Popping out of Gear

Ive searched and found a few things on it but nothing that really answers my question. Here is what is happenening. My 5 speed goes through all the gears fine except for 3rd. When I go to 3rd from 2nd the only way it goes in with no problem is by pressing the clutch all the way down putting it in third and slowly releasing the clutch then after 1 second or so I can hit the gas. If I shift normally it pops out. the only way to shift normally is to put it in 3rd and holding it until fully in gear for about 3 seconds and sometimes it takes it and sometimes itll grind as soon as I hit the gas and then spit it back at me. What do you guys think it is?

Have you tinkered with the linkage at all recently? Switched the bushings maybe? I want to say it popping out of gear was a common occurrence due to a bracket wearing out on the trans but please dont quote me. First thing I'd say is to check the linkage and make sure it isn't bumping into anything when you go the 3rd. Does it stay in gear once you are able to accelerate in 3rd or can you pop it out by toying with the car's speed?

stays in gear after its in. only pops out within the first 3 seconds after that its in and works fine. the car was just swaped from ATX to MTX but the shifter seems like it goes all the way back to where 3rd engages.

how loose does the shifter feel? can you move it around alot when its in gear?
usually a gear popping out means it isnt fully engaging, which i can feel in my reverse sometimes. not sure if really bad synchros could net you half engaged gears, and usually if 3 is bad then 2 is terrible.

Yeah, crunchy syncros can cause that issue.

For a temp fix, you can switch to a lighter trans fluid (GM Syncromesh for example) but you're better off just picking up the parts and rebuilding the trans. All the syncros are less than $100.00 from the dealership, and the first time you shift after replacement you'll know it was owrth every penny.

My shifter moves a lot when in gear. the plastic bushing that is inside the tube that holds the shifter in place is falling to pieces.

that might be stopping you from getting the correct leverage into third. id address that issue as its a super cheap fix and you dont need to drop the tranny :/ if it doesnt solve the issue, new shynchros might be in order

Fixed the shifter and no luck. feels nicer though, I feel more in control.

Here is some more info to see if anyone has an Idea. It was swapped from an ATX to an MTX. It has a FWD NA 5 speed, spec clutch, advanced auto flywheel which I didnt like how they reman'ed it, tt master cylinder and I believe a TT shifter. hope this brings up more ideas. otherwise I will go with busted syncro. also if anyone is selling a known good FWD 5 speed MTX trans. I'm a buyer!
