Vr4 ABS in the snow

keep in mind that ABS in our cars keeps the viscous coupler in our center diff safe.

I deleted my abs, and then 2 weeks later locked up my front tires doing 80mph to avoid some geese.....guess what? I am now part of the no traction/FWD club.

Maybe we all need to install a manual prop valve when we delete/disable ABS, huh? I wonder how long the tires have to be locked to damage it.

Not good!, I was horrified how bad our abs is in snow the first time it kicked in (far too early).

Oh really? Then how does the GTO MR function without abs from factory? The part numbers are all the same for the diffs so can't be that now can it.

Not really it's a directed question, if you have proof that the centre diff can/will be damaged due to NOT having abs then please present it. The awd system of the Gto is just that full time awd and is not regulated in any way to the abs.

The ABS in the 3/S was poorly designed and should be disabled in the snow. I have ABS on my truck and it is miles better, it actually works like it should. The ABS in my VR4 would always put my car into a spin.

if you are driving down the highway and lock up one axle, the other axle continues to spin and burns out the center diff viscous coupler.

not sure how to explain it any clearer than that.


i didnt say eliminating the abs will destroy your coupler, but you damn sure run the risk if you need to make a heavy panic stop.

Just be careful with those wide tires, especially if your not used to driving a car without ABS.

You can't throw an extra set of rims in your basement or a storage locker? Just would hate to see you wreck a 99 VR4!

No I don't have either right now since I'm in a hotel. I don't think they would like it too much if I stored car parts in my room. I drove my 95Vr4 and my Viper without ABS, but that was in the nice GA weather. I should have planned better with my tire selection, but I do drive pretty cautiously in icy/snowy conditions.

A pair of pliers is all I need to get the ABS relay (under the hood on passenger side) out right? I tried today without pliers and it didn't want to budge. I remember getting it out of my 95 was a PITA.
