Thread: My Airtekk Big Brake Kit

    My Airtekk Big Brake Kit

I never got around to posting about my brake kit on this forum. I bought them from Airtekk in LI New York earlier this year. However my Moda R6 rims wouldn't clear the calipers. So the kit sat for a few months while I waited on some backordered rims. Overall I'm very happy with the kit. With my old stock calipers, they didn't feel very solid. Nothing like my Subaru w/ brembos. Even after slotted rotors, stainless lines, new fluids they would take me a while to slow down at the dragstrip. Everytime I really worked them it made me think "my car is a heavy boat." There were 2 turn off lanes at the dragstrip and I could never slow down in time to make the first one.

Anyways this kit made a huge difference. No vibrations, and I can slow right down. Mitsu should of had bigger brakes to begin with. It makes it feel like a whole new car. I have not brought it to the track yet, but I have done quite a few pulls recently on the interstate and backroads. It's nice to be able to slow right back down to the speed limit after a 3rd gear pull. I plan on buying the rear matching kit over winter. I have the 345mm 6 piston front kit but they do make a 355. My stock rotors measured 332mm.

So close! They actually bolted on. I thought they fit, but realized when the wheel turned the back side of the spokes would hit.

I took a chance with enkei rp03 18x9's with a 40mm offset. I knew they wouldn't clear the stock caipers but the airtekks aren't as wide. I was a little nervous because I had to wait about 45 days as they were backordered and had to come in from Japan. That's a long time to wait for a set of rims that you aren't 100% positive will fit.

Here's a pic with the rims on stock calipers. The inner part would rub because the stock brakes aren't out as far.

    EDIT: If anyone is interested

info@airtekk.com is who I dealt with, guy named Martin. I know they make other named brake kits too and are big into air ride suspension setups. I liked them on facebook and always see a bunch of slammed cars show up on my news feed.

They came with calipers, my choice of pads (I chose street), adaptor brackets, rotors, stainless steel lines, and mounting bolts. Basically everything you see in the first picture up above. Even some locktite for the caliper adaptor brackets.

WOW that s a tight fit. Don't think the set I have would fit in the RP03's

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

They make those rims in 19's too. I think a 22 offset is what people run when they go that size. I couldn't find anyone else with a 3s online running the 18's with a 40mm offset.

Well they look good also, like the rims a lot too. You mind me asking how much you gave for the brakes?

I really hope the rim wasn't discontinued! Maybe I should order a spare while I still can. I know rp03's have been around for a while, where did you hear that?

These are the prices they sent me. I have the caliper templates for each one too but the templates aren't 100%. They were close. For example the 345mm said it would clear my Modas and they didn't. They hit on the back side of the spokes.

Looks really nice (wheels and brakes)! Glad you like them.

So with stock brakes you weren't able to lock up the front wheels? I just have SS lines, ATE super blue, and Bobcats and I can lock up my fronts no problem.

Most people have wore out stock pads with 70k mile old brake fluid. They get a new brake kit with new much more aggressive pads and fresh fluid, no wonder the comparison is so huge, lol.

My stock brakes would stop me for daily driving. I could lock them up, but after driving the car agressively or a few trips down the dragstrip and they would get worse and worse. Car only has 62k original miles on it now, tried new slotted rotors/stainless lines/fluid around 58k miles. It definitely helped, but not like these did. I'm running the rotors/pads/calipers I had on my black on on my winter car now.
