Alright thanks for the info. Looks like I need to pony up and actually get a helmet now lol wish I could buy a 2015 now..

As far as instruction, are there any good books or videos that would be helpful? I would take a class but I have a huge test in the spring I'll be studying for every weekend up until the test which is right before my wedding which is right before NG so its not in the cards lol

It's a great first time but like Chris said there isn't time to really teach you everything you should get your first time out. It doesn't mean it's unsafe and you won't learn, you'll just learn more at an actual HPDE.

PittRace (where the NG is) is actually pretty affordable with their HPDE's so if you get a chance to head there before the NG take it.

I am definitely going to try to get up there for a track day beforehand if at all possible.

Two more questions: Will Bobcat pads hold up for my first track day or should I throw on some AX6s? Also, will I need to run straight water for coolant for safety purposes?

NG '13 was my first time on the road course and it was awesome.

You can take your car on pretty much how it is (assuming your battery is tied down and the car is up on maintenance), must at least be clean inside.

We do NOT race on the road course at NG. It is "Point to Pass". When faster traffic comes up behind you, just wave them on around during passing zones. How hard you want to be on your car is up to you.

I ran street pads on mine, R/T93 ran XYZ brakes, definitely a huge difference in performance. I don't know if there was much difference in the amount of fun we had though.

I suggest at least attending an instructed HPDE or school that has classroom instruction. We do not have the time to actually instruct beginners properly on how to take a turn properly, flag training, safe passing procedures, and how to keep your "eyes out". No it's not required but you'll have more fun enjoying driving than trying to take in 50 things at once since you will be overwhelmed your first time on the track.

[edit]: in 2015 you'll have to have an SA-2005 or newer helmet.
Uh what? We were always told the last two standards are acceptable. So SA2005 and SA2010 is what I had on the tech sheet. SA2000 were no longer accepted in 2011+

Chances are you'll be taking it easy so Bobcats are probably OK but, with that said, it's much better to have too much brake than not enough.
