Our rates are on the high side not because the car is considered "unsafe" but because the DRIVERS are considered unsafe. The insurance companies "don't agree" (IE the rates are high) because the people who own these cars are more likely to wreck them through poor behavior and when they do wreck them, the repair costs are high.
It's about demographics in our case. Not about actual vehicle safety, or perceived lack of same.
