So the engine is in and I have worked out all of the big bugs. I have driven the car about 50 miles around my area breaking in the rings and such. As of now there are two problems that I am having: 1) BOV flutters when cruising. Just cruising about 55mph the BOV flutters like a heart beat. Does not affect driving and boost gauge stays right at about 19 vacuum. Searching resulted in this being compressor surge due to the FMIC. Did not have this problem on the 10:1 TT motor. Assuming it needs to be adjusted with the new engine. 2) If I get on it for a quick pull and let off, I get some smoke from the exhaust. Mainly a big puff that just dissipates out behind me. Engine is a full rebuild so it's not VSS, PCV was moved over from the old engine and it did not smoke. Greddy Catch can added in. Leak-down was less that 5% on all cylinders. Turbos have been checked and are also good. Normal shaft play, and no oil on the exhaust side of the wheel. I'm sort of really stumped on this one... Background on the engine: Stock TT Block Stock Pistons - Sealed Power Rings Forged crank - Clevite 77 Bearings Stock heads - rebuilt Stock turbos - rebuilt running wastegate pressure for breakin. What kind of BOV do you have? I had a Greddy RFL open atmosphere that was fine with 10:1 but then I went to 9:1 it started misbehaving. I think I put a washer in to stiffen the spring and it solved it. I say I think because shortly after a buddy gave me a HKS super squeaker and have been using it since without issue. My car smoked after rebuild too, could be normal when breaking in the engine. Mine never went away though so I'm not sure I can help you there.

BOV is an HKS SSQ. I adjusted the BOV both ways and it still flutters....
I always adjust it all the way tight, then back it off about 1/4-1/2 turn. If it's the pressure pulsing than it's not the BOV but the air coming back out the filter (sounds EXACTLY like the SSQV).
I'm not recirculating the BOV. I've tried all the way tight and all the way loose. no change. What would cause the pressure pulsing??
Since you're 8:1 now you're probably not injesting as much air under the curve, and the air is hitting the throttle plate and reversing back through the piping and turbos out the air filter. Cold weather is a major factor.

1) your FMIC is the problem. Nothing you can do about it other than avoid driving in that area or switching to a dual inlet IC core. 2) buy Krank vents. You only really need the front one but what's happening is air is blowing past your stock PCV and forcing oil into the combustion chamber. That is what you see when you let off.

Jeff has a fix for the surge issue as well. Talk to him as I believe he has one more spot for beta testing (at cost). I was going to give it a go, but am not at that point yet.

Oh, and Thanks Greg on the pvc issue. Mine does the same thing, but is down on the what to chase list.
