that's the #1 reason why i like them so much. the cost differential between the 5/6 speed and the atx is ridiculous. even worse, the aftermarket support for the 5/6 speed is non-existent outside of the 3/s community. atx (internals) are supported by a over a half dozen really high-caliber shops.

The only aftermarket thing the 5 speed needs is different final gear ratios. And stronger driveshaft.

A final gear to lower the ratio is what 5 speed needs for drag racing. for HW racing it's actually perfect.

I did have a chance to chat with Nelson today for a bit. Most of the goodness of his setup is in the Moroso 22580 dry sump setup he fitted. He has high regard for it and made mention it's the ultimate crank and bearing saver for high revs and racecar setups. He mentioned his oiling, vac, aeriation, and oil scatter trap coming off the dry sump is amazing. Basically you can throw anything at it and the oil film and temps in stall, anti-lag, and 10,000+ rpms are improved over OEM wet-sump. Crankcase ventilation issues are eliminated as the valve covers are vac looped into a baffled trap off a sump stage. He's also referencing 26 inches of Mercury under full boost in the crank case coming off the pump. He linked me to some private pics... me likes!

His dry sump setup on the racecar is pretty trick! Was a really awesome thing to discuss. I learned a lot from him regarding a number of things on his setup.

26 inch of vaccum? That's a lot for a street car. IMO

Here's his routing diagram less one stage. He was pretty open about everything and very helpful. I like that he made mention about where to dial in the oil pressure off the bypass based on rpms. Gave me some clarity and confirmed my hunch about the benefits of using a remote manual bypass valve on a wet sump coming off the stock gerotor pump when you rev high. I'm thinking to myself out loud now... There's a possibility the belief in the stock oil pump being weak is a misnomer. There is a high probability metal to metal wiping contact is taking place in the oil pump due to cavitation from lifting and squeezing aeriated oil which leads to accelerated wear and overexertion failure.

I pulled this design from the Moroso technical installation manual for dry sump. Unfortunately the pic's Nelson linked me to are his biz or I'd share. They pretty much follow the engineering diagram tho.

You and Nelson are the only people still trying to pass it off as a street car.....without headlights and all.

I wasn't saying for his car I meant street cars in general. I could see his car as street car if he did't cut his radiator support. vr440's front is all tube frame and it's still a street car.
