    1997 3000GT VR4 - Restoration / Build

(Previous comment has been remove due to update with who did the transaxle rebuild that was in question on FB.)

I would recommend doing as Bob has suggested to ensure that everything you do will be up to par with the rest of your goals.

"Chris Hill - I have to change the story a little. The customer sent ONLY the gear sets to Jack's transmission to change out some friction rings a while ago. The customer then put the transaxle together."

For what few vendors we have that will touch our stuff, we sure throw them under the bus easily....

The current rebuilder has so far come across what appears to be a plastic soda bottle cap & the reverse indicator detent housing from what must have been the previous sensor (the one that was mounted to the transaxle had all of its components intact).

I'm gonna throw my $.02 in here.

Look people, if you REALLY do care about this platform...you shouldn't be posting this stuff on FB. It belongs on a system of RECORD...which for us, is 3SGTO. Can you imagine how awful it would be if all of the 3/s knowledge was solely contained on FB?

Seriously, it's no better there than it is on 3si. Have a moral spine, ffs.

Thank you fro the feedback of this. I dug up the posts Ray had on his 687 build it's a Sprung RPS 6 puck. Brake pads looks like I'll go with EBC Reds for what my goals are. As for the Transmission sounded little strange that Jacks has gone south, I mean I've read so many good things about them in the past. I've got two transmissions one with bad third gear synch, the other had a hole in center case I never saw it in action. Best case would be to get both redone at some point.

Guys if I have a problem shifting from 2-3 is that a 3rd - 4th Synchro issue or a 2 gear Synchro issue? Spoke to Jacks and I didn't think about this really until I clicked order on the 3rd-4th gear synchro. Would seem it would be a 2nd gear one which is a lot more of course.

It may be confusing since you probably haven't rebuilt one, but every gear has its own syncro. They call it a 3,4 syncro, 1,2 syncro, etc because the parts are the same for those gear pairs.

I've had my spare open, and I figured each gear had one. I was over thinking, spoke with Hans he set me straight.

Dropped my trans off in Livonia, Muthen said it will take about a week to clean and redo the trans. I left a 3rd gear synchro with him and ordered the driver/pasenger side CV seals, input cap and output seal. I didn't see a input seal for the 6 Speed hopefully he has everything he needs to do the repair or I have to either break open my spare or spend more money.

Turns out all the seals were damaged, what I thought was clutch material was actually fluids. So I'm having the thing media blasted to clean it up since it's pretty nasty.

*** Correction Trans ended up with all new seals and synchros
