You don't have to own an Apple product to be predisposed against iOS 7. On this very forum alone we see people bashing Apple all the time for the most trivial of reasons, yet they haven't used an Apple product in years (or probably even ever, for some). I'll be honest, I have an iPod Touch, and that's about it (and even that I don't care for but it was a gift and it holds my music at least). My phone is an ancient LG Env (I don't do smart phones) and my computer is self built running Windows 64bit and Linux in a dual boot. Ex had an iPhone and had a Mac, and I've tried to use them, just didn't care for them. I can see how they are simple enough for the older generation to easily navigate though. Went out to dinner with my grandmother and her sister tonight, both in their 70s. And her sister had an iPhone and was asking why I didn't have one. I explained that my old Env texts and calls just as well as an iPhone without the added costs for having a smart phone and data (which I don't use.) She responded with, "yeah but my iPhone has a calendar and organizer to help me keep track of dates, and an alarm clock and note pad."

I was actually somewhat stunned since those have been standard features on phones for over 5 years, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized she probably never looked into the menus or anything for those things, as opposed to iOS which has them all right on the main screen instead of buried in menus. So there's something to be said for that I suppose. Not that she wouldn't be able to do an Android or similar, but I can see why she would just go with what's popular and well known and easy to navigate.
