I just sit back and enjoy the moving pictures and sounds. I don't try and over analyze things or compare it to older stuff. It is what it is. Movies are entertainment and if I am so entertained then it's a success.
analysis & comparison is what keeps my mind active and sharp. i don't like seeing movies like "into darkness" because it's clear that they stole the script from wrath of khan.

that's why i dislike HG; it's an "i've seen this all before" feeling. but i don't even get the satisfaction of seeing it with a new twist. every "plot twist" seems tired.

    p.s.
i should bring up avatar. avatar didn't have an original plot, but the cinematics were completely original--and that's what made it a great movie for me. yet the thing that i heard most people complain about with avatar, was that it is "Pocahontas dances with wolves in Fern Gully". True, that's the plot--but the movie is so much more than just the plot. And that's what I don't get about HG: the cinematics aren't even enough to make up for the abysmal plot. Guess it's just a dichotomy I see. People who hated Avatar & love HG.

everyone knew what Into Darkness was going to be. why bother watching it? I thought it was awesome and the "cinematics" were great.

I also thought Avatar was "Pocahontas dances with wolves in Fern Gully" as well. but I liked it. in fact I got up after watching it in 3D and said to my friend, "I think that was the best movie I've ever seen." but I also like the HG series so far so what do I know.

we're supposed to be able to sit back, enjoy being entertained and be happy without complaining about everything and picking every nit. we're not women!

saw The Interview Christmas Eve. I will say it might have been more funny had I not had to watch it with my family. the word Cock and F-bombs are probably funnier without Grandma in the room.

6/10. not that great. the guy playing Kim Jong Un was the funniest one in the movie.

Dude, that movie bugged me because it didn't follow the story from Wrath of Khan. It was a completely different take on the Khan character and why he's doing what he does. If you're not gonna watch it because you think the scrips will even be remotely similar, you'd be missing out. See it as a completely new story, because it is.

    Into the Woods.. 7/10

First off, disclaimer: not a fan of musicals in general and I have never seen the actual show for this.

Now that that's out of the way, took the GF to go see it on Christmas day because she loves musicals and Sondheim in general. I agreed because I think Anna Kendrick is a babe (CALL ME GURRRRRRL!) Singing was tolerable, and the movie did a good job of blending the story and humor throughout (the Princes singing Agony was hysterical.) Did a reasonable job keeping me engaged and there were some familiar tropes and plot twists, a handful of interesting morality questions raised and a few humorous references and sexual jokes.

That all said, I gave it a 7 because enjoyable as it was, I did find my attention drifting at times and wondering how much longer it was going to go on. Seemed to last a VERY long time, although part of that may be because the show comes to a climax where there is supposed to be an intermission before resuming again in the original broadway performance. So while well done, that just kinda made me feel it was exceedingly long. Show started at around 410-420ish with previews and stuff, and ended at about 640.

I'd say that the song Agony (for which you can find Broadway videos on youtube) was probably my favorite part because it was just so wonderfully over the top and hyperbole. Aside from that, Kendrick was still a babe (srsly girl, call me.)

seen it. twice. hated it even more the 2nd time. it's not JUST a rip on ST2, it's also a rip on Nemesis (itself a rip on ST2). plus khan isn't convincing. they really needed michael fassbender in that role.

i get that it's supposed to be a "new story". problem is, it's still been done before--even if that was a different universe. the only thing ST has going for it is that they established the alternative universe theme UP FRONT in the first reboot movie. xmen is supposed to be alternate universe in the movies--but it sure as shit doesn't say that anywhere. (one of the reasons i still prefer the cartoons).

then you, my friend, have never seen a good musical. Attend a performance of Avenue Q, Spamalot or The Book of Mormon and be prepared to change your tune.
