I get your point but I liked 2 of those 3 10x more than AVP.

    we just like different stuff.

in regards to the "competing with est canon etc". I think the saying, "never meet your hero's. they will always disapoint you." can sorta be applied here. ei: you've craved a Transformers movie ever since the first animated once came out in the 80's. what could possibly compete with almost 30's of anticipation?

Ok. Try this on for size. I was not disappointed with Tron:Legacy. Some people were. I thought it was fantastic--and the only thing they could have done to play it up more would have been to put Dillinger's kid in as a bad-guy in the movie. Other than that, it was a home-run for me. So 30 years of "anticipation" doesn't mean that I'm always disappointed. Once in a blue moon, Hollywood actually does proper homage to forebearers, rather than try and cash in quick on making money and cheap flashy shiz.

For that matter, I also loved HitchHikers' Guide to the Galaxy. Sure, it's not EXACTLY the same as the book, but that's not the point. Douglas Adams would have been proud of that movie--I have no doubts in my mind. Book came out in like '79, movie came out in 2005? Nope, anticipation didn't kill it for me.

    P.S.
I had no idea you liked Hunger Games and Twilight that much. You really should check if you still have a penis.

    P.P.S.
I will NEVER get why Hunger Games is so popular...as anything other than a reference to the absurd DOD budget cuts. Both movies are so formulaic that they are downright pedestrian. So I can't say as I'm surprised that the US body public decries Prometheus (open-ended, raises more questions, provides just enough hints to tie in, but not enough to nail down the big stuff)--and LAUDS Hunger Games (closed-ended, predictable, unsurprising, uninspired, force-feeds the viewer all the information). That's just how full-retard the average person in the USA is at this point.

    P.P.P.S.
Take 1 part of "The Most Dangerous Game", add 1 part of "Running Man", add in a pinch of "Death Race 2000"...and you have "Hunger Games". Then all you need is a Law & Order-esque "we take ourselves way too seriously" undertone--and VIOLA! 9-figure box-office smash! Christ, Avatar looks downright original in some ways when you compare it.

I read HGG and liked it but I wasn't saying to myself after, "damn there needs to be a movie for this". I also didn't care for it so whatever.

actually it was Hunger and Hobbit. I refuse to watch Twilight. my ex tried to get me to watch it with her and I told her that we're not lesbians. F that.

"predictable, unsurprising, uninspired, force-feeds the viewer all the information" sounds like AVP. lets make her and the Predator friends and give her a tail spear! YEAH! at best it seems like it was written by a 12 year old.

take a bunch of wildly popular things(except Death Race) put them together and you don't expect it to be wildly popular? that's like complaining about a porn with nothing but hot chicks.

    Better not bail on prom.

Next one on the list is planet of apes
and TMNT for sure. Sex tape could be as funny as bad teacher? I know we talked about seeing "into the storm" @ the drive-in. there's expendables 3 and sin city. Summers blockbusters are over then

AVP was ONE entry in the franchise. ONE. 15 minutes into the 1st hunger games movie, I knew how the trilogy was going to play out. That didn't happen with Star Wars, Matrix, or any other trilogies. I get why game of thrones is appealing...it keeps you guessing. There's NOTHING of that sort with HG.

I would normally at this point say "I'm glad you enjoy it, each to his/her own", but unfortunately that probably means that Hollywood is frantically searching for the next author following in the footsteps of JK Rowlings; looking to sell book movie rights to cash in and make a MINT. So pedestrian crap keeps getting made & meanwhile, trilogies like "Nightwatch" and "Atlas Shrugged" have difficulty getting funding at all.

    P.S.
Maybe I am jaded and cynical. I have seen a LOT of "fight the system" movies in my time, and HG just seems like an incredibly worn-out theme, one that doesn't even try to push the genre in a new or exciting direction. Everything from Star Wars to The Matrix to Logan's Run seemed to do a better and more original job of handling the genre. Fucking DUNE was better, ffs--and I'm just waiting for Jeff to chime in. I mean the list goes on and on. Bourne, V for Vendetta, Pump up the Volume, A Clockwork Orange, Stalag 17, Robocop, etc.

About the only ones WORSE are probably Zardoz and Hackers. Johnny Mnemonic was a better movie than HG--I shit you not.

I never went to prom. this would be my first. ya know to make it authentic like 20 of us should split one limo, go to a fancy restaurant, get water and appetizers and not tip for shit.

yeah AVP was one movie in a franchise. one movie that sucked and while I'm at it so did Alien Resurection. god where do I start with that crap fest. all of the new Star Wars movies sucked ass. you want to talk about plot holes? Star Wars is LOADED with them. ever see the youtube video, "What if Star Wars didn't suck?"? and I'm a huge SW fan. the Matrix 2 and 3 were both crap and predictable. they were clearly trying to shove out those movies asap just to make a quick buck. for crying out loud the end of the third when Trinity is about to die and Neo says, "You can't die", I literally said, "yes I can" and I'll be damned if the bitch didn't say it. hell we were cracking jokes the whole movie. it was like Mystery Science Theater. we had everyone in there rolling. it was beyond corny as well as predctable. from the teenage boy fighting the entire robot army all alone in his giant robot screaming, "NEO I BELIEVE!". damn it. it sounds like a bad anime.

lettuce be cereal. the reason Atlas Shrugged had funding problems is because of the massivly left leaning of the people in "Hollywood". they're not exactaly known for their conservatitive ideals or urge to promote them.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. nothing is original anymore. nothing. it's all based on some other shit and more often than most realize it's Biblical. I mean damn look at the Matrix that movies is riddled with Biblical themes and references. Star Wars too. Avatar is Pocahantas. even classics(books) like The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe might as well be broken down into verses written by Centuar Apostles.

About the only ones WORSE are probably Zardoz and Hackers. Johnny Mnemonic was a better movie than HG--I shit you not.

ok. point taken. allure was purely about seeing big screen rendition. STILL less annoying than HG. I raise you:
