    Long story sorta short. I have a 92sl that I put in a turbo engine in years ago and ran a 92tt ecu with it. I finally spun a bearing in it, but befor that I was having issues with that ecu. So I finally got some money together and bought a new jdm engine with a 6 speed tranny that came with an uncut wiring harness and the jspec ecu. Best I can find on it is that it has a 120 mile speed limiter, and only 280 or so hp. Is the any other down sides?

    So I figure eventully after I get some more money together I need to purchase another US ecu. I've looked at the hybrids on 3sx, but not sure that's the way to go, but I am leaning that way. I'm guessing I'd need to change the CAS over to a 92 configuration and use the 92 wiring harness, or is there a way around that because of the OBDI configuration?

    Any ideas or prior knowlage would be most appreshated

    There are others more way more knowledgeable than me in the ecu department but I also have a 92 jdm ecu. I was able to remove the speed limiter by clipping 1 wire that goes to the ecu. Im not sure if that is still the best choice but it was the accepted method 5 years ago. I dont believe the ecu makes any less hp though.

    1st gen non turbo have cable driven speedo, you wont have issues with speed limiter as your ecu wont see speed. I ran jdm ecu for years in my fwd, benefit was it reads only one ox sensor but this may not matter for you. Where did you get 280 figure? Don't recall seeing that anywhere in fact some came with 13gs so actually had more power.

    The 280 figure is because of the gentleman's agreement in Japan so all sports cars on paper only had 280PS. The real life figure is the same as the usdm cars. If your car has a cable driven speedo then you don't need to worry about the speed limit. If it's an electronic speedo then you need to cut pin 66 at the ecu. However the down side to this is the ecu cannot see if the car is moving which can effect your idle as it changes the idle when the car is stationary. The correct method is to purchase a HKS SLD to suit a gto. It interrupts the signal to pin 66 once you get over the 180km/h limit and tricks the ecu into thinking it's still only doing 180.

    All jdm gto ecus will expect a signal to pin 66. So if your car is using a cable driven speedo then yes you might have issues because obviously there won't be a signal for the ecu. You may find that you will have to manually set your idle a little higher. Also since your car is a first gen your radiator fans should be controlled by temp sensors on the radiator. If your car is setup to have the ecu control the fans then they won't work as expected either. I think they will default to always on and full speed but I'm not 100% sure on that. Also you will need to check the wiring to your maf. The non Turbo jdm cars do not have enough wires to run the tt maf. What's the part number on the ecu you will be using?

    To my knowledge, the fuel and timing map is also a bit more aggressive as Japan has better fuel (96 octane IIRC) that has could have been a possible culprit for why people blew motors when they turned up the boost and/or run a SAFC or similar.

    You could just get a flashable ECU and know that you won't have problems. (chromedecu.org or clonedecu.org)

    Part # on the ecu is md355167. I have heard that about the fuel map but haven't found anything to confirm it. As for the flashable drive I'm considering it but short on cash and just hoping to get it running without any issues. I did like the fact that on the flash ecu I could run the fans correctly and have an OBDII outlet. Btw is there any good links that go threw changing the 6 speed over to a fwd? I've got a welded vcu, so if I understand it right I just replace that, cut the output shat and cover the whole with a plate.

    md355167 is from a 97 onwards TT. I suspect your car has the same fan control setup as the 1st gen TT which means it's independent of the ECU. So I think the fan control will be fine but the ECU you have will be trying to change the fans but obviously it will have no effect on anything. You will also need to manually set your idle a little higher due to no speed sensor signal to the ECU. I think it should work fine though.
