car dies intermittentlly dies right after starting

this is a 91 3000gt vr4 that is completely stock. When I go to start it sometime it will just turn over and not fire at all. then sometimes It will start up just fine but then die instantly, just like you were to shut the key off, and then you can sometimes hear a bunch of relays going nuts.

when you do get it started it runs a little sputtery and idles a little low, I dont know if that is a related issue or a totally different problem. but after you drive it a bit it will be able to start up no problem. the next morning after siting a bit it will be just as bad.

I replaced the battery because I knew the one I had was junk but I seems like the ignition is having a ground problem.

I spend all my time working on my Nissans so dont know much about my 3000 so I thought I would ask to see if someone has a suggestion of a common 3000 issue that might save me hours and hours of wire chasing and diagram reading... i hate wiring due to my colorblindness so help a brother out!

btw, not my car, It's a coworkers, he just didnt want to go through the hassle of registering.

It's the ECU....

pulled his ecu, looks like 2 caps leaked, gonna let him borrow mine tomorrow for the time being see if that fixes it, and get his repaired
