Aftermarket Turbo Heat Shields / Wrap

Ive been running my 13T's for several years with no heat shields whatsoever (not even the stock ones) and never had any issues with heat. However my hood does get pretty warm.

Now that Ive got a DR800 kit i was thinking about getting some sort of blanket or wrap. What are people using for turbo blankets, wraps ect. Are they even needed?

I was looking at the DEI Ti turbo blankets but the reviews dont seam to be all that great. several people say that there turbo blanket only lasted 5k miles and many others say that they need to replace the blanket at least once a year. Opinions?

Also i came across these stainless steel OEM'ish styled heat shields on Treadstones site.

They defiantly wont wear out like the DEI blankets but im not sure how efficient they are.

Anyone have any experience with aftermarket heat shields?

Ceramic coating. You can coat everything metal... Turbo exhaust housings, o2 housing, headers, even the down pipe I you want. I've hear swaintech is one of the best companies.

Think turbo housings are generally around 50-60 bucks each. Factory style manifolds are generally around 150ish for the two I think, and tubulars tends to be more expensive due to more piping.

ive got a decent budget but would like to primarily spend it on other more important parts. ideally i would like to keep the header, turbo blanket, and downpipe coatings under $300 but if i can get something thats proven to work and not look like junk in a few years i wouldnt mind spending up to $600. i cant really see spending more than $600 on keeping the engine bay cooler when im not having any issues currently.

    Anyone ever try Jet-hot?

You don't need to coat the downpipe, probably wouldn't hurt but it's not necessary. I imagine that if you contacted a company that does ceramic coating and told them what all you had you could probably get the precats, turbos and manifolds done for around 300-400.

after doing a LOT of reading and even talking to a few evo venders ive decided not to get the headers coated. swaintech is without a doubt the best company for true ceramic coating, but even their stuff falls off after about 8 months. From what i was told, the metal header will expand and contract more than the ceramic coating, eventually causing it to fail. considering i put around 3000 miles a month on my vr4 the coatings wouldnt even last a year.

If i run into issues I'll try out the treadstone stainless steel heat shields.

Swaintech doesnt hold up well on brand new stuff. Since new material heat cycles out and moves a bit through those cycles. Once something is run in apparently it holds up very well.

I'm with Jason. I've coated full length Mustang headers without issue and had no issue, however I had used the headers before I got them coated.

Jason have you forgotten about this stuff? I am still planning on trying it if I deem it necessary...
