God it's been almost 15 years since we covered MBTI in college. I think I'm slightly less extroverted now, that's changed. I think I also used to be an F or a J bitd. Having a paradigm shift in 2006 really changed me.

Reading the wiki page also came up with this:

"Those types who prefer perception show the world their preferred perceiving function (sensing or intuition). So SP types tend to appear to the world as concrete and NP types as abstract. According to Myers,[1]:75 perceptive types prefer to "keep decisions open"."

So essentially....even despite my forceful, assertive (some would call aggressive) style of presenting and arguing my opinions--I'm not closed minded. Seeing as how that's poorly understood by pretty much everyone I know, I guess I'm just misunderstood.
Yeah, here is one study's findings:

It looks like society creates more judgers, feelers and sensors than perceivers, thinkers and intuitive types.

OUR society. Let's not forget that this is likely an ethnocentric problem. I doubt very much if Japan or Germany or even China had the same kind of disbursement. It's that LACK of emotional detachment that has left us with a bloated government and social programs out the wazoo. And the lack of ability to "think outside the box" has left us with politicians who get reelected year after year without any merit; not to mention the de-facto 2-party system. I would bet heavily that a society that champions austere forms of government has a lot less "F's" in its general population.

    Your personality type: ENTP.
    Breakdown of preferences: Mind - Extraverted (64%), Energy - Intuitive (12%), Nature - Thinking (3%), Tactics - Prospecting (25%), Identity - Assertive (12%).

I challenge everyone who hasn't retaken the test to retake and see how (dis)similarly their results come up.

ok, so 1st test says INTP.

    2nd test says INTJ.

I'm more inclined to stick with the results on the first one though--but I can see where I have strong traits on both sides.

    INTJ traits I have:
I tend to be firecely independant (I stopped giving a fuck about others opinions of me when I was 14); and I'm comfortable with leading if no one else is up to it. I also am relatively hypersensitive to rejection from those I care about (i.e. my wife), and I don't easily make or choose friends--people I care about--accordingly. Probably the biggest thing swaying me in the "J" direction though is my desire to meticulously plan. This could be a function of me being in Europe and being paranoid about the litany of misfortunes that can befall someone who doesn't speak the local language. If I were in the USA, I'd tend to adopt a more haphazard approach to events--since I'm not worried too much about handling stuff on the fly. Plans only last until first contact anyhow.

    INTP traits I have:
I am VERY stubborn about change. I'm not closed to it, per say, but I am going to fight it if I don't see a legitimate reason for it. I have a WICKEDLY sharp intellect and I can use logic to justify virtually anything if I put my mind to it. I have no patience for social customs (fashions, lack of assertive speech, etc). I love theoretical constructs & can adeptly juggle dichotomies in my mind simultaneously. I enjoy pursuing new frames of reference to broaden my understanding of a concept/topic.

Great thread, Alex. Personality types are great context to have when understanding what someone might mean when they say things. It has helped my sister, an emotional extrovert, understand me, a logical introvert, much better. I was Myers-Briggs'd for my first job (and had to edit this post after I remembered what happened). I have the results kicking around here somewhere but I was 'diagnosed' INTP. I was moderately the first three and strongly P.
