OEM are tri and Clevites I believe are tri as well. The tri has copper layer that you see on engines that spun bearings or have excessive wear. bie metal has no copper on them. just aluminum and steel back plate. Aluminum can last longer and they can take the small derbies in the oil with out scratching the crank ,but they can't take power. trimetal bearings take more abuse. On bi metal bearings load taking very from 5000psi to 8000psi depending on the amount of silicon in aluminium. conventional metl bearings are somewhere between 8700psi to 10000psi. Race bearings can take even more with stronger back plates with thiner overlayer and more clamping structure as high as 18kpsi. Kings bearings has made tri material to withstand 18kpsi. Clevites made race bearings for our engines and they say it can hold 60% more load so i'm guessing somewhere in 16kpsi area. I wonder if we can get a hold of sputter bearings. They hold over 20kpsi, but they are popular in Europe.
this is the construction of most bi and trimetal bearings.

Sputter bearings need to be combined with tri-metal bearings and most engine components companies build either or, I am sure you could get a custom set that would use tri-metals for the mains and sputter bearings for the rods. If you are looking for these sputter bearings, you can contact Mahle which makes a set to see if they can make a set for our platform. They make tri-metal bearings for the 3/S, I am sure they could make a set of bearings...

I'm thinking it was too many mistakes over a long period of time.

A year ago today, I said this:

That was when Sin brought it to Jfast for a fuel leak, and Jfast found all kinds of shit wrong and couldn't believe the motor wasn't blown then.

There were multiple instances before that which made me cringe. I think it was just a long time coming, and nothing in particular on the motor was to blame. I'd call it user error and move on.

    This! obviously

BTW stock bearings FTW, but high HP requires the engine to be about perfect in all ways, tune etc.

    Cool story

Anyways, car spun a bearing. Its done, over I moved on. I appreciate everyones help over the years. But to say I didn't know what I was doing, pretty ignorant. I never touched my tune. ever. only thing I checked was my 2step and nlts. other than that, I left it to people who knew what they were doing. my car was built strong, 3 years of beating the shit out of it. I didn't drive nice. I did spirited driving and launcehs like it was no ones business. I went to the drags and would do 15+ runs a night, plus highway pulls and what not. Car lasted as long a good while considering how I drove it. Am I sad? yea, it was a fun car that put a huge smile on my face. Am I the only one who has spun a bearing in these cars??? no....I moved on, already got a new car and will just learn from my multiple mistakes.

Should we just take from this that we need to be checking bearing clearances more frequently on higher power cars? 3 years of beating is pretty good considering. Had he checked or even changed the bearings within that 3 year span, would this have happened?
