I just yanked my bulb when I swapped the steering wheel. No need for a warning light for something I don't have anymore.

I agree... But if you had a 2nd gen, and wanted to keep the passenger bag functional, fooling the controller into thinking all is well would be the only way to do it.

Paperclip in the air bag plug should fool the SRS computer into thinking the air bag is there. Won't help your face when you crash, passenger should be good though. Haven't verified it on our cars, but it's standard testing procedure on many others.

I've had the code 22 and the SRS light on since I bought the car 7 years ago. I should probably fix it, but instead I just won't crash it.

Nope... It will set a code 21 squib shorted code. Deliberately setting a short circuit code is a valid test if you're diagnosing an open circuit code, but I prefer to just use an appropriate resistor and get no codes if the system is working correctly.

Specs are system specific, but the vast majority will set a shorted code anything under 1 ohm, and an open code anything over 4 ohms. I keep a couple 2.5 ohm resistors in my box just for that purpose.

There are very cheap scan tools on Amazon for the OBD2 cars that will clear the SRS error. Mine is on since I swapped out the stock wheel for the evo 5 wheel. But can't find a cheap scanner to clear the code on my OBDI system.
