My '92 RT/TT rescue.... Because it's too tragic to call it a "restoration".

I stumbled across a Craigslist ad for this car, listed at best offer, while looking for parts for my '91 SL. The owner said, and I quote....

"The body is in good shape, the interior is a bit rough, the sunroof is broken, and it won't start because of the ECU. I tried to put a new one in, but it didn't work. I'm tired of people saying they want it, but won't have the money until the 1st of the month, so the first $500 bucks that comes along will take it."

    My interest was piqued....

I get there, and the car was terribly oversold.... The sunroof was, in fact, broken by stereo thieves. However, the kid didn't cover the giant hole in the roof, and just let it accumulate rain, leaves, and pests for a couple years. The good news, was that all fluids looked normal, the oil pan wasn't dented, and the car was complete, minus the sunroof. Mostly, I just felt it was a crime, the way this car was mistreated. Suddenly, I had visions of a renewed machine. With un-bubbled tinting, white racing stripes and lettering, and full-on charcoal and black interior. There was nothing else I could do, but throw some cash at this misguided young man..

Given the state of the car, I offered him $400 for the car, and we met in the middle at $450. I figured I twin-turbo, AWD, big-brake-upgrade, my SL for $450. That's INSANE! Further research revealed that, my SL is ill-equipped for the rear subframe, without messy conversion.

Because TT/AWD is what every 3S owner wants, and it was a red Stealth that originally made me fall in love with the platform, I decided to keep her. I will finish fixing the SL, and DD it, while restoring the RT. And so, the saga begins......

Here's some beginning pics.... So sad...
    That terrible backyard paint job.

Some loose hoses, unsecured items, and rat-chewed wires. You can also see the smashed radiator stay, that keeps the hood from latching, and lets me know that there's structural damage here....

    More crappy paint.

This is what the interior looked like, when I brought it home.

    Bubbled out door skins.

    The backseat.

The parts alone are worth far more than that. Besides, I'm an ASE-cert mechanic, and can get almost all my parts at cost.

Wow, quite a project you have ahead of you. Let me know if you need any pointers. I am currently restoring my car also... but I the condition was nowhere near that bad when I started. Interested to see what you do.
