Why would you play any game if you're not going to invest time into it? Correct me if I'm wrong but in order to play any game you have to invest some time. In Eve, you don't have to grind a certain way to make ISK, you just have to play the game. I always have enough isk left over each month (after doing whatever I wanted to do) to keep stocked up on game time.

it still requires a continual time investment. i live in the real world--where i'm not always at home, i'm not always around an internet connection, and i have to be able to put games down for a while at regular intervals.

this is the reason chrono trigger is one of the greatest--if not THE greatest RPG of all time--because it's very friendly to people who put it down and come back later. FF4-7+ never had that.

You're also comparing a single player offline RPG to a persistent changing online universe, not really an even comparison. By that logic, Call of Duty would be the greatest RPG game ever since you could put that down and come back a year later and still know what's going on within the game and play.

Now that said, I loved Chrono Trigger one my favorites (Chrono Cross is definitely my favorite though). Just comparing between different styles is a hard comparison to take. As far as online games go, EVE is actually pretty easy to jump into and out of compared to more traditional style MMOs like World of Warcraft or RIFT. You miss a content update in one of those, and you have to do a bunch of dungeon grinds to get the gear you need to be able to even attempt the new raiding content which is around 90% of what end game content revolves around.

it's not a problem for STO either. and i wasn't trying to compare a single-player RPG to an MMORPG; i was simply pointing out one of the reasons why it had such lasting and enduring appeal.
