    Active Aero Help

Hey guys, my AA started doing the classic error light coming on, so I decided to do some reading and troubleshooting, but now I'm stuck, and I'm turning to the community.

I took apart the front dam, cleaned out the bushings, cleaned everything up, and I can use the adjustment knob on the front motor to turn the gear forward and backward no problem. When I plug the front motor in, and turn the car on, if the AA switch is on, the dash error light stays on, and nothing works. If I leave the AA switch off, and then turn the car on, the dash light turns off, like normal, after three seconds, and I can turn the AA switch on, and it will work, and go up, but when I try to turn it off, the error light comes on, the rear spoiler goes down, the front motor doesn't move (I haven't hooked up the actual air dam yet, I want to make sure everything works properly before I reassemble everything), and none of it works after that.

Where do I go from here? Do I need to replace the front motor? I know the rear AA works without a hitch, so I'm assuming its gotta be the offering half.

Update: ok, I just confirmed that the front motor does not work, period. Furthermore, it causes a most interesting symptom. If I manually turn it to a certain position, it acts just as I described, allowing me to turn it on once, before it throws the error light. However, if I rotate it manually just an eighth of a turn, in either direction, whenever I turn the car on, it throws the error light immediately. I tested unplugging and replugging it back in, turning it off and on, and nothing changes that behavior.

Would it be simpler to just buy a new motor?

Are you running it with the front motor detached from the air dam? If not try this. I had the same symptoms a long time ago and just ended up removing the front air dam and leaving the motor in place. Rear now functions flawlessly
