Cops shoot dog after illegally arresting owner

Not gonna post a video because it's pretty disturbing. Short story: A guy was recording some officers about half a block away (police were responding to a standoff or something) so they decided to approach him. Owner put dog in car, police begin to arrest the guy, dog jumps out of car and police shoot dog. What are your thoughts?

I am going to be that guy and say. Who cares, if a dog that size lunged at me I would react first to protect myself and ask questions later.

Dog should have been properly restrained.

Saw the video. He was legally arrested and should have secured his animal before approaching police.

LMAO, he wasn't a "half a block away"... it was walking less than 15 feet of the police cars. The cops he was talking smack to, prior to them approaching him, were less than 100 feet away.

    How is one illegally arrested?

And if unknown dog comes at me I am going to defend myself. Had a large dog come at me once growling and being aggressive. Dog got a fist to the head.

Saw video. Cops were right. Need to see the video to understand.

Dog went into attack mode after the office tried to control the dog without force

    Owners fault

You guys must have watched the shorter video then. The cops were easily half a block away, the guy put his dog back in the car when they approached him and refused to let him control his dog when it jumped back out. I also don't see how he was obstructing justice by recording police officers in a public area. Sure you would attack a dog that was lunging at you (as long as the dog was formidable enough to even cause damage, which I'm sure this dog was) but why did they feel the need to come down and arrest him anyway? If all it takes is a black guy to distract a bunch of cops away from an armed robbery then I don't know how anything gets done in the city.

One of my co-workers neighbors had his dog outside one day when police arrived in regards to something another neighbor was calling about. They parked in front of her yard (my co-worker) and her neighbors dog simple walked up to the officers barking (completely normal behavior) before her neighbor could get to him. The officer pulled his gun and shot at the dog but missed. Later he said he felt threatened but was let go from the local PD. I don't see any difference in this case.

BTW, this is not the first time this particular PD has been in hot water for using this type of justice when people record them in public.

Cuffs were already on at this point. Once cuffs go on, they don't come off.

Also, The police most likely had a boundary set up, which is why everyone else was across the street. This man was walking around closer than anyone else with a big dog. Those two officers were providing cover outside the home, and were being distracted by this man with a dog, walking to close to an active operation. So perhaps they were charging him with interfering. As you can tell from the video, those who are video taping him called him "crazy". Obviously they knew the boundaries and seemed to think this guy was pushing the officers buttons.

Also, the police officers tried to restrain the dog before they had to shoot it in self defense. As I said too, once cuffs go on, they don't come off. In addition, the man that was in cuffs, if he were bit by his own dog, while in cuffs, the police officers would be responsible (I know, unlikely, but true). The guy was being an ass, and was treated as such. His fault he didn't properly restrain his dog before going back to deal with the police.

Read my posts that pissed people off on 3si. The cops were absolutely in line. The perp was encroaching on an ongoing dangerous crime scene, creating a distraction that could/should be determined threatening.

I gave up the argument over there after the kindergarten commenting fool. If my reasoning seems off, do some research on police crime scene protocol. Not the same everywhere, but what happens in that vid is on par with most if not all... I ran this by 2 of the 3 cops in my family, both said no questions to be had. If someone wants more detailed reasoning let me know...

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

I would say 98% of people here are in agreement with you. Don't let idiots over there piss you off with there stupid, uneducated comments. More reason to avoid that place.
