Maybe the CDI is working and the transistor is not? Are you using resistor spark plugs? You have to make a few tweaks if you're using non resistor sparkplugs. The DLI is not compatible with them without noise filters due to emi.

What are the effects of using them with non-resistor?

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

HKS USA Twin Power DLI (more)

    See note:
HKS Twin Power Units are not compatible with Non-Resistor*Spark Plugs
Use the HKS DLI Hotwire relay method and use a notch filter if you're going to run those plugs. that's how I have to wire mine to use VC53's.

An excellent plug for ethanol and an unmodified ignition system with your power level is NGK BR8EIX. That's a non projected resistor sparkplug.

Hate to see you take two steps forward and two steps back bro. It's like that sometimes though.

AEM says the same about non-resistor not compatible the EMS. I had questioned Ray and he said no issues with either DLI or EMS with non-resistor.

I love learning, and this may be a opportunity to learn.

As noted by another, Ray has always used DLIs with non resistor plugs with no issues. I don't think he ever mentioned doing anything special like the notch filter you mention. I too have used a DLI for a very long time. My current setup, using a DLI I started using probably 4 years ago, all it has ever seen is non resistor NGK coppers, and now the champion C53VC surface discharge plugs which are non resistor.

I always run around 35-36psi. Street and drag strip. Never a hiccup.

So what is the actual issue? I know HKS has always stated no for use with non resisotor plugs. But is this just HKS covering their butts since non resistor plugs by nature will cause EMI and maybe ruin your AM radio reception. Does the DLI increase this effect so the don't want to risk it. Of course strong enough can disrupt an ECU, but again, never seen any issues or heard of any.

Please share with the class, I am all about learning.

Put me down for DLI + Non-resistor plugs without issue.

Where is that relay method? and what does that and the notch filter do?
