I got these bad boys off Jamie last night so i have some serious magic too work on them . The nice thing is the whole unit is hidden behind the plastic trim so i can just go nuts with the satin black again

    And after a little loving..

The lights were totally stripped including the projectors and lenses, cleaned up where needed and then sanded and sprayed.

Ive also done the front wiper scuttle panel which came up as new

More to come as i feel well enough to do more

Sneak preview of engine covers and plenum that i had done by a mate.

    14th March 2012

Car should have been at the painters weeks ago..but delays mean the car is STILL stuck on my drive looking sorry for itself :wallbang:

So out of sheer frustration i felt i needed to do SOMETHING on the car...even if it was as trivial as fitting the front rocker cover

Here are a few most recent engine bay shots taken tonight, obvioulsy some things are not fastened down yet or fitted correctly etc.

Its certainly an improvement...still LOADS of cleaning to be done yet as i kinda guessed the bodyshop would get it covered in crud

Here was it before i did anything

Absolutely NOTHING was replaced in the engine bay, only the plug leads and air filter were replaced in favour for OEM units. Everything else was removed, stripped and cleaned or painted and then refitted.

EVERYTHING was done at home with nothing more than basic cleaning products and many many rattle cans Lol, not a single part was out sourced to any companies apart from the rocker and plenum a friend rattle can'd for me in crinkle red & black.

Looks great! Why use the NA plenum though?

Edit: oh it's still NA, I thought you were doing a TT conversion.

Looking good!! Now imagine if you had a powder-coating system & an at-home electroplating kit at your disposal...

On second thought, don't 'cause then you feel obligated to pull apart things you didn't need to just to redo them!

Keep up the good work! The valve covers & plenum look great! I was going to ask which powder color was used on the V/Cs, but read that they're painted...they turned out awesome!

Hi, at this stage of the build it was still NA. I did later run a TT plenum after back to back dyno testing saw a 14 bhp increase in power. The car is now running 9b's on the 10:1 engine with 20% Methanol I will tag the TT conversion on the end of this build thread.

I LOVE powder coating and my father used to own and industrial company doing it. Just about everything I owned ended up powder coated lol.

I r removed and painted anything that was removable so it's all super neat. The car was completed 14 months ago and still looks as good as these photos

The paints used were high heat crinkle paint which come in a red which is near enough identical to the red Hondas use on their valve covers

While doing my car i bought the wife another TT, Actually i bought her two but sold the other soon after . So the car itself was mechanically sound but boy did it need some good lovin' !! Just a few quick pics of what i did over about 3 weekends or so.

Here are a couple of pics of the wifes car..was pretty much as scabby as mine first was when i bought it..similar make over (minus a respray !) and all is well.

    BEFORE

    AFTER...

    Car is now running...

    UK spec 11g turbos
    Walbro 255 fuel pump
    HKS SMIC's
    HKS Hard Pipe kit
    SARD FPR
Greddy boost controller set at 14psi
Custom exhaust and small K&N airfilter.

    IMG_1349.jpg

Apart from that its all stock fueling/managment and runs a nice healthy 358bhp which is plenty for a daily driver runing the kids to school

Thanks !!! This whole build cost me a total of $3500 of which $1500 was for the respray alone. I also bought replacement wheels and new pads & rotors all round in that price. Everything was just hard work and rattle cans, This was no big budget build at all.

WOOOOHOOOOOO, car is finally at the painters, it should have gone there a month ago but the painter fell very ill and had stay in hospital the put him out of action for a while...let the fun commence

So i spoke to the painters today about colour/shade etc that i wanted the car too be so we mixed up and tried a good few combinations..DAMN who thought mixing paint was so complicated :?

The factory colour is X08 Pyranees black, this consists of a base black, a white pearl, a green tint , a blue tint and a grey tint. I wanted to enhance the blue and leave out the green so we tried leaving the green tint out totally, strangely enough it made zero difference to the colour and it still had a green tinge to the colour in the sun :?

After mixing a few options and factory colours we stripped it right back and literally added mix of SBX7 Maxicar Galaxy Blue tint to really deep BO92 Black. The results were EXACTLY what i had in mind and the formula was born

I tried taking loads of photos of the sample to give an idea but the camera just couldn't pick it up nicely at all.

In the shade the colour is a very very deep black

Hints of blue coming out in the sun

    Full effect in 100% sunlight

Car is FINALLY all prepped and ready for the spray booth a full 2 months later than planned, but better late than never :naughty::naughty:

Car has had every little mark, ding, chip repaired and taken back to bare metal in many places. They have prepped the body and it is going in the spray booth on Saturday to be primed and it will then sit for a couple of days before getting ready to hit it with the colour. We still have the wheels to do which is why they are in the car, they will be painted the same colour again but doing the insides too.

Didn't have a camera on me as i wasn't expecting progress when i popped in today so excuse the crappy phone pics
