    Tore my pectoral tendon

The MRI results read as follows:

A complete tear of the left pectoralis major tendon is present. The distal 2cm of the tendon remains attached to the proximal left humerus. An appox 7 cm gap between the distal & proximally retracted tendon fragments & musculotendinous junction is present. The tear primarily affects the junction of the sternal and clavicular portions of the left pectoralis major. Heterogeneous occasionaly hyperintense T1 signal along the expected course of the left pectoralis major tendon is suggestive of blood products. Subcutaneous edema is also present anteriorly.

I've got to take this to the Dr monday and we've already got surgery scheduled for wednesday(06/12). any tips or experience with dealing with this? I want to(of course) make my recovery as fast and effective as possible.

    Thanks

    Oh, man.

Just do what they tell you and DON'T RUSH THE REHAB!

The downside is too far down, buddy.

yeah, I've been talking to some guys that have a) had it done b) know someone that has and they all said my recovery will be faster than most people who are not in shape. I'm going to be very careful that's for sure.

Sorry to hear about this. You do it in a competition? Hate getting injured...especially when you are north of 40. So, I started going for 10 to 15 reps to failure adjusting the weight in lieu of pyramids and maxing out every session.

From what I hear about any tendon tears...is that you can build up the surrounding tendons as well while healing (after docs stitch it back together). I wish you a speedy recovery.

I was actually taking a bit of a break doing light stuff. before it tore I hit an easy 365 and dropped down to 315. it was about my 5th or 6th rep at 315 when it felt like my pec went flat.

ouch dude, never heard of anyone getting injured on a down set. at least its the tendon instead of muscle belly, though. Did you notice anything feeling weird with the 365?

no, not at all. I think maybe I was coming down with it to fast and shooting it up to quick thus putting to much stress on it. I don't know.
