Gen1 Lat 42- Quad Hella Projector Pop Up's with Halos

After receiving quite a lot of interest in these lights after posting a few photos on 3SGTO Face book, I thought I would do a thread on how I fitted them.
Firstly I would like to point out that the kits that Kurt at Latitude 42 & now 3SX supply are for LHD GTO/3000GT's only, but they will be able to supply them without the Hella projectors if you want to have RHD versions.
These are the RHD Hella Projectors 1ML 998.570-031 for the Low/Dip beams & 1KL 998.570-031 for the High/Main Beam with side lights. The high beams have side lights so that they can be illuminated if you have done the snake eye delete, however as I have fitted Halos to my lights you could have these as side lights if you prefer.








First you need to remove the complete pop up light units.





Now remove the light unit from the pop up by removing the four bolts holding it in place.





Now you need to remove the large headed rivets that hold the bracket to the pop up arms, these you can drill out or cut the heads off as I did with a 4" inch grinder with a micro cutting disc.





Now is a good time to freshen up the paint work on what's left of the pop ups, for this I used satin black paint.

You now need to attach the new bracket to the pop up arms. There are rivets supplied with the kit and they do work very well although I chose to use M6 Stainless button heads with washers and Nylok nuts, I also placed a washer between the bracket and the arms & greased with copper ease. This makes for a smooth operation of the Pop ups.





Now fit the springs to the studs and fit the projectors on the brackets. The low/dip beam goes in the middle with the High/Main beam on the outside, the size of the lights prevents fitment the other way round.

Where to lose all the wires! As I have fitted HID's to both the low & high beams there is a lot of wires so I used a hole saw to drill a hole in the back of the buckets to take all the wires through.

Now for the Halos. I have used these 80mm Halos from e-bay: 2x 24 Leds Car Angel Eyes Halo Ring Light 80mm Wht 469# | eBay

As the wires are quite fragile I would recommend buy twice the number you need.

They come with a white background to the LED's which would not realy look good on the projectors, so you will need to spray them black.





To do this just get a cotton ear bud and some clean engine oil and put a drop of oil on every LED being careful not to overload as any spillage onto the background will ruin the job as the paint will not stick to the oil.
When the paint has dried just wipe off the tops of the LED's and you will be left with the LED's and a black background.









I just super glued these to the face of the Projectors although you could use silicone if you wanted, I wired up the projectors so that the low/dip beam stayed on with the main/high beam, so I wired up the halos with the low beam so they are illuminated only with the head lights.
You could wire these up with the side lights if you have done the snake eye delete.

The following are a few pictures of the installed lights and the illumination you can expect from this great kit. It is just great to be able to see where you are going at night.

I've used these halos and had great success with them, plus the board is already black. They are stupid bright too, but pricey compared to the eBay ones. You can sometime find discount codes if you google long enough.

Good find, I would imagine you can ignore the non weatherproof disclaimer, or if concerned you could get the covers. (diffuser's)
