shaft play & feed line questions

I just installed some new dr750s along with new oem feed and return lines. Primed until oil band out the returns. After a test drive I had a fluttering noise during decel from the rear turbo area. As I'm pulling the turbo out, I disconnect the rear feed at the top and no oil comes out. Is that normal? Then i get it out and it has a tiny bit of shaft play. Is this normal on a new turbo after it has been run on a the car? I know journal bearing turbo have some play when there's no oil in them. Maybe im being paranoid.

You should have had some oil come out, but a little bit of shaft play is normal.

That's what I thought. I was expecting some oil but got nothing, and I drove the car for a bit before the noise popped up. But If all the oil drains out to the pan then how much should I get out the feed of any? I'm just gonna put on new gaskets and throw everything back together tomorrow. Nothing to worry about though?

Yes there is something to worry about, you need to be sure oil is flowing freely in the rear. Pull the return off the pan and crank the car to see if oil comes out. The turbo has bearings inside, so there is a little bit of resistance to flow, you should get a noticeable amount of oil out of the feed when removed, certainly a few drips.

Yes i noticed my DR750s have a bit more side to side shaft play than other turbos I've felt, not sure the exact reason for this either. I'm thinking it's just inherent to the design of the shaft/bearings.

That's probably all it is. I got them back on and everything is fine. I was just curious and slightly worried lol.
