All of us OK3s members are good. Everybody's cars are even undamaged. There were several close calls though. Several members live in that area. But unless you're right in its path you were spared. Hope spring time is over soon. Thanks for the concern guys.

There is NO building that would stand up to what went through here the other night. There were plenty of "safe" rooms that dissappeared. The only safe place was underground.

i'm sure not all of the damage could be prevented. that said, over on this side of the pond, walls aren't made on 16" centers with 2x4's. every interior wall is brick/cinderblock. houses here will take a LOT more punishment before giving up the ghost.

I'm almost 51 and I've seen plenty of twisters. Apparently you've never seen what a 200mph suction vacuum can do to a structure. Most of the houses that were hit were brick and there was nothing but the pad left. It pulled the grass out of the ground. Most "safe" rooms are poured solid 8inches (or thicker) and are reinforced with steel and wire. I know because I used to build houses and did several "safe" rooms. The storm that came through THIS time was probably one of the strongest EVER recorded.
We're used to EF1 -EF4. But this was another breed of twister.

"brick" house means nothing. in the USA, that usually means a facade, nothing more. as i said, i don't think it would prevent destruction; but the build quality over here would certainly cut down on the potential thereof.

I'm sure your houses are fantastic and would have no problem stopping a car, tree or another house traveling at 200mph.

california has building codes designed around the natural disasters common there (earthquakes). OK has no such regulations, to my knowledge.
