Purpose of the handgun? And the rifle?
Any experience?
Well if you want a large caliber, I would suggest the Springfield XDM .45acp w/ 3.5" barrel. It is the only .45 I have found that actually fit my girly hands LOL. And shoots surprising well for a .45acp, the recoil isn't that bad at all. I could easily fire 50+ rounds without my wrist talking.
If you want something a little smaller, I really liked the Sig P230 .380 (although I think they make an even more compact one now).
For rifle, you will get a plethora of answers.
See if you have any local gun shows and go looking. You need to actually handle the gun to see if you like the feel of it in your hand. Some gun stores will actually have a firing range to let you test them out (good luck finding one LOL).

Your not looking to kill off Chris, are you?
We went by Gander Mtn today (just opened) and I got to look at all sorts of handguns. I'm just not as educated as I would like to be. Purpose would be for.....target shooting--yeah, target shooting. Oh, and home protection. Yep, that sounds right.
No, truly, for the above reasons. And yes, I do have prior shotgun and rifle experience, but none with handguns. Thanks for the help. April, I will look to see if they have that one to see how it feels for me.
Well I say a .22 for a handgun for plinking... but the ammo is stupid expensive right now. For home protection and target, a 9mm would be an ideal gun.
The first handgun I shot was a 9mm, it was alright. The next one was .357 mag in a little J frame S&W airlite revolver, it damn near came out of my hands. Then the Para Ordnance P12 .45acp, which had massive recoil and damn near blew my ear drums, no joke. I refuse to shoot that gun unless absolutely necessary.
Out of all the guns I have shot, I really really like my XDM. They also come in smaller calipers, but I have no experience with them.
The most important part about buying a handgun is to make sure it feels comfortable (grip) in your hand... at least that's how I feel. Almost everything else can be adjusted.
I fired my Buddy's SIG .45 acp loved it I would consider buying one.
A 9mm reliable semi-auto that feels best in your hand.
See: M&P, Glock 19, XD, SRC9, and various Sig models that are more introductury models unless you want to pay out the wazoo. Caliber whores are adorable and often (not always) people that don't have very good shot placement.![]()
yea just ask alex he lugs around a .44jk , i have a xd40 myself and like it fitsmy hand the best out of the guns i tried. I was looking at and firing a berretta px4 storm and liked it just not the way my hands held it . but for a lady that would be an awesome gun.
if you're after home protection, mossberg 500. done.
